Game times changed for Southern Miss baseball series vs Texas State due to rain

HATTIESBURG — Game times for Southern Miss baseball’s series against Texas State have been changed due to inclement weather.

Game 1, which was suspended Thursday night due to lightning, will now resume at 2 p.m. Friday at Pete Taylor Park. Game 2 will be played an hour after the conclusion of Game 1.

The series finale scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. has not been changed.

Southern Miss (35-17, 18-9 Sun Belt Conference) was trailing Texas State 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning on Thursday night. The Golden Eagles had a runner on base with no outs after Tucker Stockman drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Lawson Odom. Seth Smith then pinch hit for Gabe Broadus, and he faces a 1-1 count when play begins.

Texas State (26-27, 12-15) has led for the entire game after it scored two runs off Billy Oldham in the first inning and another one in the third inning. Southern Miss then trailed 7-1 but scored three runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning.

Davis Gillespie is 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Ozzie Pratt is batting 3-for-4. Oldham's five earned runs are the second most he's allowed this season.
