Michael Fulmer becomes priority pickup as Tigers reliever

D.J. Short recommends adding Michael Fulmer, who has turned things around this season with a move to the Tigers bullpen.

Video Transcript

DJ SHORT: Tigers' right hander Michael Fulmer won the AL Rookie of the Year Award in 2016 and was named an All-Star in 2017, but it's been all downhill since then. Fulmer posted a 4.69 ERA in 2019 before having Tommy John surgery in March of 2019. He had a brutal 8.78 ERA and 10 starts and his return to action last year. But he's enjoying a second act with a move to the bullpen this year.

As of May 20th, Fulmer had a 2 ERA and 22 to 3 strikeout to walk ratio in 18 innings out of the bullpen this season. The stuff is predictably playing up with that role as he's reaching as high as 97 miles per hour with his fastball, also getting a good number of whiffs on all of his pitches. He's begun to take away save chances from Gregory Soto and we could see more of that in the future with the way things are going.

The big question is if Fulmer ends up as trade bait to a contender with this turnaround. That's probably likely. But he should be a priority pick up in all fantasy leagues as long as he's pitching this well.
