FOOTBALL

Neenah 7, Appleton North 6

NEENAH - Grant Dean’s 16-yard touchdown run with 4:59 remaining in the third quarter and the extra-point kick by Liam Wasco was the difference as the Rockets beat the Lightning.

North had a chance to win the game, but a 30-yard field goal attempt with 30.9 seconds remaining missed wide right.

Neenah quarterback Evan Vanevenhoven, who was playing for the first time since injuring his left hand in the season opener, ran for 72 yards on 21 carries for Neenah. Dean added 64 yards on 13 carries.

Quarterback Luke Kritzer scored North’s only touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter, but the extra point was blocked by Dean.

North also had a 27-yard field goal attempt blocked by Luke Jung in the second quarter.

OSHKOSH - The Papermakers took control early, putting up 27 points in the first quarter in their win over the Spartans.

Carson Pendleton completed 12-of-14 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Two of them went to Bryson Vieth.

Gavin Tyson led Kimberly in rushing with 88 yards on nine carries.

Xavier 35, Waupaca 14

WAUPACA – The Hawks erupted for 21 first-quarter points en route to the win.

Xavier (5-1, 4-0 Bay Conference) led 35-0 at the half with the mercy clock running for most of the second half.

Isaiah Des Jardins had a 74-yard touchdown run to start the game and his interception on Waupaca’s ensuing possession early in the first quarter led to a Reid Hietpas short touchdown run. Hietpas added another short touchdown run in the first half and Matthew Potter added touchdown runs of 43 and 13 yards for the Hawks.

Xzaver Pittman had over 200 yards rushing for Waupaca with touchdown runs of 24 and 77 yards.

Kaukauna 42, Oshkosh West 35

KAUKAUNA – The Wildcats led 28-21 at the half, but the Ghosts rallied with 21 second-half points to get the victory.

The win improves Kaukauna to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Fox Valley Association.

Finnley Doriot passed for four touchdowns and also ran for another to lead the Kaukauna offense. He had a pair of touchdown passes to Kavanaugh Weyenberg (12, 8 yards) and also had a 3-yard touchdown pass to Nolan Hall and a 73-yard score to Parker Schuh in the fourth quarter.

Connor Kincheloe had a 1-yard touchdown run as well for the Ghosts.

Luxemburg-Casco 24, Freedom 14

FREEDOM - Max Ronsmann ran for two scores and threw for a third to lead the Spartans to the win over the Irish.

Freedom had taken a 14-0 lead in the second quarter on a pair of Drew Kortz touchdown throws.

Luxemburg-Casco responded by scoring 24 unanswered points to get the win.

Ronsmann threw for 157 yards for Luxemburg-Casco (5-1) and added 76 yards rushing.

Freedom was led by Noah Heinke with 110 yards rushing and Kortz with 128 yards passing.

Fox Valley Lutheran 35, Little Chute 19

LITTLE CHUTE – Liam Heiges ran for four touchdowns and the Foxes got another from Jack Egan in their victory over the Mustangs.

The win puts the Foxes at 5-1 overall and tied atop the North Eastern Conference with Luxemburg-Casco at 4-0.

Heiges had scoring runs of 17, 1, 2 and 10 yards with Egan scoring on a 2-yard run.

Charlie Vanden Burgt had a 55-yard touchdown run to lead Little Chute (4-2, 2-2).

New Holstein 27, Brillion 7

NEW HOLSTEIN - The Huskies got three rushing touchdowns and one passing in the win over the Lions.

Trailing 7-0 after one period, Matt Steier scored on an 8-yard run and then passed six yards to Ely Kohlman for another score to put New Holstein ahead to stay in the second quarter.

Cole Schaefer and Erick Burns added second-half touchdowns for New Holstein.

Jaden Bastian had put Brillion ahead in the first quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run.

Bastian led Brillion with 67 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Brice Haendel led New Holstein with 65 yards rushing on 17 carries. Kohlman caught six passes for 11 yards.

CLINTONVILLE - Wisconsin Dells scored 22 fourth-quarter points to erase a deficit and earn the nonconference victory.

The Truckers led 14-7 at the half and 20-19 after three quarters.

Kade Rosenow threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Truckers.

West Bend Sprawl

WEST BEND – Xavier beat Appleton North in pool play to highlight a successful day for both teams.

The Hawks vs. Lightning matchup featured the WIAA Division 2 defending state champ in Xavier against the third-ranked in D1 Lightning, which reached the D1 state semifinals last season.

Xavier beat North 2-1 by the scores of 25-20, 17-25, 15-13. The Hawks (26-1) rallied from a 12-7 deficit in the third set to pull out the comeback win.

Xavier got the final two points to break a 13-13 tie with senior libero Belle Shea on the serve. She said that the championship experience the Hawks have in those tense moments helps the team “tremendously.”

“We do have that mindset and it’s a mindset where we don’t know the score, we just try and not to look at it and we play one point at a time,” Shea said.

Appleton North went 2-1 on the day, posting a 25-14, 25-18 win over West Bend West and a 25-15, 25-16 victory over Germantown.

Xavier also defeated Germantown (25-15, 25-20) and West Bend West (25-9, 25-15) before its showdown with Appleton North.

Appleton North statistical leaders included Teegan Charapata with 24 kills, 14 digs and four blocks; Chloe North with 12 digs and four aces; Emerson Van Lannen with eight kills, three aces, 60 assists and eight digs; Maggie Hahnke with three aces and 18 digs; Kayden Lamon with five kills and six blocks; and Ella Demetrician with 34 kills, two aces, 23 digs and three blocks.

Xavier was paced by Olivia Neumann’s 18 kills and eight blocks with Halle Vande Hey adding 13 kills, four blocks and 10 digs. Annika Kowalski had 16 kills, 11 digs and three blocks and Mattea Kiepert also had 12 kills, five blocks and five aces. Shea led Xavier defensively with 20 digs and five aces and Madison Daley also had seven kills, four blocks and eight digs. Mariah Potter had 71 assists for Xavier.

BOYS SOCCER

Kimberly 3, Kingsford (Mich.) 2

KIMBERLY - The Papermakers, who trailed 2-0, scored three goals in less than four minutes in the second half to pick up the nonconference win.

Kimberly got goals from Liam Paradiso in the 72nd minute and Mason Brandt in the73 and 74th minutes to rally for the win.

Janvier Mahirwe assisted on Paradiso’s goal while Paradiso assisted on both of Brandt’s goals.

Will Voet had eight saves for Kimberly.

Pulaski 2, Fox Valley Lutheran 0

PULASKI - The Red Raiders scored twice in the second half to defeat the Foxes.

Aidan Dauk put Pulaski ahead in the 49th minute with a penalty kick. Aran Capella made it 2-0 in the 77th minute with his goal.

Brayden Carr assisted on Capella’s goal.

Jonah Drevs had one save for Pulaski.

Matthew Callaway had seven saves for Fox Valley Lutheran.
