Here are Friday's high school sports results for the Appleton area

SOFTBALL

Kaukauna 11, Kimberly 1

KAUKAUNA - The Ghosts reached the 100th consecutive win mark with a dominating victory over the Papermakers in five innings.

The national record, according to MaxPreps, is 112 by Vandebilt Catholic in Houma, Louisiana, from 1980 to 1983.

Kaukauna junior ace Karly Meredith struck out eight over five innings and gave up two hits. One was a solo home run to Kimberly freshman third baseman Chloe Biese in the third inning.

“It’s definitely crazy to think about,” Meredith said of reaching the 100-win mark. “But I just gotta keep composed and keep trusting in what we do.”

The Ghosts’ offense scored in four of the five innings with junior infielder Chloe Herzfeldt finishing 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the third inning and four RBI total.

Paige Bodenheimer also had three RBI with Meredith and Jozy Ebben also finishing with two hits and an RBI each. Cassidy VandenHeuvel also scored three runs.

Kaukauna’s last loss was May 18, 2021, a 3-2 decision at Neenah.

Menasha 10, Green Bay West/East 0

MENASHA - The Bluejays scored four runs in the first inning and six in the fifth to earn the Bay Conference win.

In the fifth, Kelsie Mohr hit a two-run inside-the park homer and Addie Lund followed with a two-run homer after Taylor Papendorf reached on an error.

Gabrielle Farr was solid in the circle, allowing just one hit while striking out 12.

Weyauwega-Fremont 2, Shiocton 1

WEYAUWEGA - The Warhawks plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the Central Wisconsin Conference win.

Both teams scored a run in the first and the game remained that way until late.

Hailie Poppy took the loss despite pitching seven strong innings. She allowed six hits, two runs - one earned - with four strikeouts.

BASEBALL

Hortonville 17, Appleton East 5

APPLETON - Kael Konrad had two hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in five runs to power the Polar Bears over the Patriots in a Fox Valley Association game.

Jack Coenen added three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Rashaud Kastner was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Jack Schulze had a double and three RBI, and Broden Butzin had two hits and an RBI for the Polar Bears.

Griffin Jens was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, allowed five hits, four earned runs and struck out four.

Cade Prestigiacomo had a double and two RBI for Appleton East.

Kaukauna 8, Oshkosh West 1

KAUKAUNA - Owen Jenkins pitched a complete game, allowing four hits while striking out seven, to pitch the Ghosts to the victory over the Wildcats.

Jenkins also had two hits and an RBI at the plate. Tyler Jezeski added two RBI for Kaukauna and Bron Schaefer scored three runs.

Neenah 15, Appleton West 1

NEENAH - AJ Price had a big game for the Rockets, leading them on the mound and at the plate in the five-inning win over the Terrors.

Price pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters for the win. He was also 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles.

Ethan VanDyke added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for Neenah. Payton Miller also had two hits.

Freedom had a double winner in individual events with Aaron Hambel. Hambel won the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of :11.37 and :22.63, respectively.

Little Chute’s Cooper Effa won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of :41.12 and the high jump at a height of 6-2.

Freedom’s Lydia Merrick had a big meet, finish first in four events. Merrick swept the 100- and 300-meter hurdles with times of :16.09 and :47.08, respectively, won the 200 in :26.99 and won the high jump at a height of 5-4.

Little Chute’s Ashley Wilson took first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs with times of 5:22.43 and 11:51.06, respectively. Teammate Kara Verstegen won the long and triple jumps with jumps of 16-4.5 and 35-1, respectively.

Fox Valley Lutheran;s Emma Nilson took first in the shot put with a put of 42-7 and in the discus with a throw of 121-7.

Emily McCarthy scored the goal for Kimberly on a header off an assist from Senah Hanes.
