ROCHESTER - Once trailing 20-5 in the first quarter, the Spaulding High School boys basketball team rallied to defeat Portsmouth, 59-52 on Friday in a Division I battle at the Rochester Community Center.

Sophomore Marcel Rose led Spaulding with 15 points, while Paul Butler scored 11, and Kyran Jeanpierre, Camden Carleton and Nate Sanchez-Martinez all had 10.

"That's a great win over Portsmouth, nothing but respect for the coaching staff and the program," Spaulding head coach Lorne Lucas said. "Really proud our kids just grinding away and grinding away. We were down 15 at one point, and again, just grinding it out and not losing faith in each other."

It was the third win in four games for Spaulding, which is now 5-8 on the season. Portsmouth, with its fourth straight loss, is now 7-5.

"Just disappointed," Portsmouth head coach Tyrese Gibbs said. "We let (Spaulding) back in it and they took the lead. We knew they were coming, we knew they weren't going to go away, but we just kind of gave up there at the end. Disappointed for sure."

Sophomore Ryan Swartz led Portsmouth with 14, while senior Miles de Iong had nine, Jackson Jones had eight, and Isaiah Reis seven.
