Friday Seacoast Roundup: Oyster River girls tennis edges Winnacunnet, 5-4

HAMPTON – Something had to give when the undefeated Winnacunnet and Oyster River girls tennis teams met on Friday in a Division II match.

Winnacunnet entered with a record of 12-0, and Oyster River at 10-0. It was only fitting that this match ended with a 5-4 final as the Bobcats pulled out the win on the road.

The deciding match came at No. 3 doubles as Kathryn Demarest and Siena Schair defeated Amelia Dumont and Grace Vander Els, 8-5.

Sofia Karageorgis (No. 3, 8-5), Demarest (No. 4, 8-1) and Maggie Farwell (No. 5, 8-1) all won in singles for Oyster River, which also got an 8-1 win by Clea Gibson and Karageorgis at No. 2 doubles.

For Winnacunnet, Polina Makarenko (No. 1, 8-0), Stella Sebeny (No. 2, 8-0) and Vander Els (No. 6, 8-6) won in singles, and Makarenko and Sebeny won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

GIRLS TENNIS

Exeter 5

HUDSON – Katie Rocha (No. 1, 9-7), Ava Iaccobuci (No. 2, 8-4) and Cate Phelps (No. 6, 8-2) won in singles action for Exeter in this Division I win.

In doubles, Rocha and Iaccobuci won 8-2 at No. 1, and Meghan Leigh and Katie Turner won 8-5 at No. 2.

Portsmouth 8

Hollis-Brookline 1

HOLLIS – Avery Porter (No. 2, 8-3), Caylie Cook (No. 3, 8-1), Mia Edwards (No. 4, 8-0), Aiofe Ryan (No. 5, 8-2) and Eyse White (No. 6, 8-2) all won in singles for Portsmouth (8-4) in this Division match.

In doubles, Sophia Jundi and Cook won 9-7 at No. 1, Porter and Edwards won 8-2 at No. 2, and White and Clara Daw won 8-3 at No. 3.

ROCHESTER - Maddy Gagnon (No.1, 8-5), Lucy Gosselin (No. 5, 8-4) and Ashley Stewart (No. 6, 8-3) all won in singles action for Spaulding in this Division I match.

In doubles, Gagnon and Stella Mitropoulos won 8-2 at No. 1, Zoe Farrington and Hannah Stewart won 8-5 at No. 2, and Stewart and Lucy Gosselin and Ashley Stewart won 8-0 at No. 3.

LONDONDERRY- Jackson Emrich won at No. 3 singles, and then teamed with Cam Bastien to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

HUDSON - Charlie Gaughan (No. 1, 8-1), Dom Theos (No. 2, 8-0), Robert Berthel (No. 3, 8-4), Ryan Byrnes (No. 4, 8-0), Lance Makabali (No. 5, 8-1) and Owen Simon (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles for Exeter (6-4).

In doubles, Gaughan and Theos won 8-1 at No. 1, Berthel and Oliver Berardino won 8-6 at No. 2, and Byrnes and Nick Myers won 8-2 at No. 3.

PORTSMOUTH – The Blackbirds rallied for two runs in the sixth inning, scoring the winning run on a two-out balk.

The game ended on Elliott Miles’ fly ball to center which was caught a foot from the fence.

Gar Hindle had both hits for Portsmouth, which left seven runners on base, three in scoring position.

Senior Matthew Minckler allowed five hits and two earned runs over six innings, striking out five.

Exeter 0

EXETER – The Bulldogs scored single runs in the first and second innings, handing Exeter this Division I loss.

Cam Snee two of Exeter’s four hits, while Hayden Schimoler and Ryan Morgado both had one.

Bedford’s Aidan O’Connell struck out seven over seven innings, earning the complete-game win. Exeter sophomore Cam Piwnicki allowed five hits and no earned runs over six innings, fanning four.

York 11

Lake Region 1

NAPLES, Maine – The Wildcats scored four runs in third inning and seven in the fourth, earning this Class B South five-inning game.

Benjamin Brown had three RBIs and scored twice for York, while Jack Joyce and Jack Jellison both had one hit and two RBIs. Teammates Conor Fell, and Jake Fogg each had one hit.

DOVER – Timmy Avery and Michael Skowron combined for three hits and 10 RBIs for the Saints in this Division II win. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Avery had two hits and six RBIs, while Skowron had one hit and four RBIs. Devon Paquette added three hits and scored three runs for the Saints, while Kenny Avery, Charlie Covert, Sam Grondin and Cade Murphy all had one hit.

Sam Grondin earned the win, allowing three hits and striking out three over five innings.

PELHAM - Cam Sengenberger, Wylder Tonkin, and Landon Wolusky all had hits for the Bobcats, while Lucas Pelletier had an RBI in this Division II game.

KITTERY, Maine – The Patriots scored four runs in the second inning in this Class C South win.

Zach Stacy and Colby Christiansen both had a hit for the Rangers, who got three innings of hitless relief from Alec Webster.

BEDFORD – Annie Christiana had two hits, including a triple, and scored three runs for Exeter in this Division I win.

Emma Plourde (hit, two RBIs) and Dejah Rondeau (hit, RBI, two runs) led the offense.

Summer Leclerc allowed four hits and struck out eight over five innings, earning the win. Edy Crawford struck out two in two innings of hitless relief.

York 5

Lake Region 4

NAPLES, Maine – Ella Moon’s home run in the seventh inning was the difference in this Class B South win for the Wildcats. It was the first loss of the season for the Lakers, who are now 6-1.

York junior McKayla Kortest struck out four and allowed four hits, earning the win. She also hit her fourth homer of the season.

Emily Estes added two hits and an RBI for the Wildcats, while Maddy Raymond (two hits), Maddie Fitzgerald (hit, RBI), Ava Brent (hit) and Ella Hickey (hit) starred.

LONDONDERRY - CJ Dexter had two hits, Addison French had a hit and scored, and Caitlin Willis had a hit and drove in a run for Spaulding in this Division I loss.

KEENE - Abby Nersesian hit two solo home runs for Portsmouth in this Division I loss.

PELHAM – Morgan Trela allowed one hit and struck out 12, leading Oyster River to this Division II win.

Aubrey DeJesus’ two-run single in the seventh scored Lorelye LeClair (single) and Mia Boyd (bunt single) with the game’s only runs.

DeJesus, Maddy Veno, and Kate Michaud all had two hits for Oyster River.

HAMPTON – Antonio Franciosa’s six goals led Winnacunnet to this Division II win.

Caleb White added four goals for the Warriors, while Tanyon Ziolkowski had three, and Ryan Ciolfi and Lucas Botnick each had two. Braden Nowak and Noah Garofalo also scored for WHS.

Oyster River 9

Merrimack Valley 2

CONCORD – Freshman Alex Moody’s four goals led Oyster River to this Division II win.

Jadyn Smart added two goals and two assists for the Bobcats, while Tyler Callander had two goals and one assist, and Sam Guilmette had a goal and one assist.

Oyster River goalie Finn Mason had three saves.

DOVER - Finley Detolla's five goals and one assist led St. Thomas Aquinas to this Division II win.

Jackson Estes added three goals and three assists for the Saints, while Anthony DiMartino (two goals, three assists), Johnny Resch (two goals, assist), Patrick Hathaway (two goals), Aidan Morrison (goal, two assists), Colin Chrisom (goal, assist) and Michael Ellis (goal) all figured in the scoring.

NASHUA – Annie Parker had five goals and one assist, and Charlotte Marston had four goals and four assists for Portsmouth in this Division I win.

Ginger Vinciguerra added three goals for the Clippers, while Avery Ruhnke, Morgan Ruhnke and Lily Patterson all had two goals, and Anya Baker had one.

Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had one save.

DOVER – The Green Wave outscored Pinkerton, 8-4 in the second half for this Division I win.

Julia Rowley had two goals, and six assists for Dover, while Rylen Gray had two goals and two assists, and Payton Denning had two goals and one assist. Teammates Lily Hunt had four goals, while Abbie Kozlowski, Megan Healy and Danielle Young all had one goal and one assist, and Zayda Clairmont had one goal.

YORK, Maine - Gail Armlin's three goals led York to this Class B win. Sophia Luchette and Ava Fontaine each scored two goals for the Wildcats, and Lila Murphy had one.

MANCHESTER - Maia Delano had six goals and four assists, and Shea Graham had three goals and three assists for Winnacunnet in this Division II win,

Abby Wilber added two goals for the Warriors, while Sarah Rademacher, Clara Nardone, Tegan Rooney and Norah Willcox all had one. Teammate Sky Mace had 3 assists and a season-high 12 draw controls.
