Weekend Roundup: Philo baseball rallies past Maysville to advance

DUNCAN FALLS — Philo, the 13th seed, walked it off by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past 10th seed Maysville 4-3 in Saturday's Division II sectional game.

The Electrics (9-14-1) advanced to play at third seed Steubenville at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Eli Roush hit an RBI double to score Wyatt Tysinger, who was pinch running for Ky-Mani Phillip, who led off the seventh with a single. Philo then loaded the bases before a Maysville error allowed the tying and game-winning runs to score.

Phillip had two of Philo's five hits, while Cooper Radcliffe allowed one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in three innings of relief to earn the victory. Jack Lincicome started, giving up two runs on two hits in four innings.

Tyler Debolt started for the Panthers (7-13) and gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk in six innings, while Kolton Gifford suffered the loss in relief. Debolt and Ryan Parmer each singled with a RBI for Maysville, which also had five hits.

Three games were pushed to 5 p.m. Monday. John Glenn was leading Buckeye Local 5-2 in the first inning when the game was suspended and will resume at John Glenn, while Meadowbrook will host Claymont and Zanesville will travel to River View.

Softball

Morgan 13, Maysville 8: Blair Clawson and Ellie Parsons doubled and singled and combined for five RBIs as the Raiders (17-4, 12-4 MVL) claimed an outright Muskingum Valley League Small School Division title on Saturday.

Chloe Baker added three hits and scored three times, Malayni Clemens chipped in two hits with a RBI, Remi Keirns also had two hits and Myka Augenstein tripled with a RBI for Morgan, which used a seven-run sixth to pull away.

Laney Kangas earned the win, allowing eight runs on 15 hits with five strikeouts, and Allia Rush tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Kam Brooks went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Sophie Dennis swatted three doubles with three RBIs and two runs scored, Ashtyn Merlo doubled, singled and knocked in two runs, Kaelynne Mitton had a triple, a double and a single and scored twice, and Ayven Johnson added two hits and two runs scored for Maysville (3-19, 1-15).

Mitton also took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and fanning two in six innings.

Friday's results

Morgan 5, Harrison Central 4: Myka Augenstein's two-out single scored Chloe Baker in the bottom of the sixth inning as third seed Morgan edged 12th seed Harrison Central in a Division II sectional final.

The Raiders (16-4) advanced to face second seed John Glenn, a 5-4 winner over seventh seed New Philadelphia, in a district semifinal at 5 p.m. Monday at Philo.

Allia Rush started and tossed five scoreless innings with four strikeouts and four walks to pick up the win, while Laney Kangas allowed four runs, one earned, on five hits in two innings of relief.

Paige Lanning belted a two-run homer to put Morgan up 2-0 in the second, Baker doubled in Ellie Parsons and Malayni Clemens singled home Baker for a 4-0 lead in the fourth before the Huskies scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie it at 4.

Baker went 4-for-4 and scored twice, and Blair Clawson doubled to highlight the 11-hit attack.

Steubenville 9, West Muskingum 6: Fifth seed Big Red scored four times in the first then used a three-run sixth to outlast the ninth-seeded Tornadoes (18-8) in a sectional final.

Cadence Puckett's RBI single brought in Addy Antonetz in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead for West, but it trailed 5-1 entering the third. Kate Foster doubled home Antonetz, Peyton Brown scored on Gabbi Hammer's sac fly and another RBI single by Puckett, scoring Foster, cut the Big Red lead to 5-4.

The Tornadoes then pulled within 6-5 in the top of the sixth when Lydiah Huey scored on Antonetz's sac fly, but Steubenville scored three times with two outs in the home half to secure the win.

Kadie Bare gave up five runs in two innings to take the loss, while Puckett gave up four runs on seven hits in four innings of relief. Antonetz, Puckett and Foster each had two hits and combined for four of the team's six RBIs.

Division III

Meadowbrook 9, Coshocton 2: The second-seeded Colts (19-9) scored one run in each of the first five innings to top the 14th-seeded Lady 'Skins (6-20) in sectional final play.

Meadowbrook will play Barnesville in the district semifinal at 5 p.m. Monday at Cambridge.

Addy Sichina belted a solo home run in the second, and Sommer Ginn led off the third with a homer as the Colts led 3-0 through three. Natalee Norman's two-run single highlighted a four-run sixth to help the Colts put the game out of reach.

Ginn finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Sichina was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, as eight players had at least one hit for Meadowbrook. Sichina also picked up the victory in the circle, striking out six, giving up two runs on four hits and walking two.

Savannah Gambill went the distance in the loss, surrendering nine runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks and Mallorie Stamper had a double and a single for the Coshocton offense.

Barnesville 8, Ridgewood 3: The third-seeded Shamrocks plated six runs in the fourth to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 7-2 lead in the sectional final win.

Addison Lahmers singled home Kaydence Lahna to tie the game at 1 in the third, and Miciah Cahill doubled home Bailee Williams in the fourth for a 2-1 Generals lead, but a couple of Ridgewood errors, along with five hits, allowed Barnesville to blow open a close game.

Cahill and Lahna each finished with two hits, and Williams and Maggie Shannon also doubled for Ridgewood, while Lahna took the loss after allowing seven runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Baseball

Buckeye Trail 15, TCC 0 (5 inn.): Jackson Hoop went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Braden Williams tripled, singled and drove in two runs as the Warriors (14-6) won an outright Inter-Valley Conference North Division title.

Mason McQuain tallied a double, a single and two runs scored, Sam Wayble added two hits and fanned five in two scoreless innings for the victory, Laine Wayble added a single and two BRIs and Easton Rominger scored three times and drove in two runs for Trail.

Coshocton 6, Shenandoah 0: Evan Unger singled and drove in two runs, and Coby Moore and Coen Phillips added a single and an RBI for the Redskins in a win over the Zeps.

Calan Shaw tossed a two-hitter with four walks and two strikeouts in the complete-game win.

John Glenn 3, Ridgewood 1: Zane Townsend had two singles and an RBI, and Roman Gallitz doubled with an RBI as the Muskies topped the Generals.

Noah Winland also had a single and a RBI, Trent Milliner went six innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks and Carter Merry tossed a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts for the save.

Five Generals had a single, Grant Lahmers drove in the only run and Logan Ridenbaugh went the distance in the loss, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Philo 10, River View 1: Wyatt Tysinger earned the complete-game victory, scattering six hits, fanning three and walking none for the Electrics, who had eight players with a hit.

Mack Wilson allowed three runs on four hits in one inning to take the loss. He also had two hits, and Maguire Werntz doubled for the Black Bears.

West Muskingum 5, Waterford 1: Rashid SeSay hit a triple and a single to go with an RBI and a run scored, leading the Tornadoes to victory.

Sam Wiseman added two hits, Cale McGreevy and Cam Fowler each doubled and Ashton Ansel picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts in three innings.

Marietta 10, Zanesville 6: Riley Needles had two of the Blue Devils' six hits, and Solomon Norris, Preston Moorehead and Noah Darnes all drove in runs in the loss to the Tigers.

Evan McBride took the loss.

Athens 4, New Lexington 1: Garrett Blosser doubled and singled, and Bentley Hanson added two hits as the Panthers (18-4) fell to the Bulldogs.

Isaac McGill took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits with five strikeouts in three innings.

Track

Willett highlights Zanesville's effort at LCL meet: Camron Willett ran 15.21 seconds to win the 110 hurdles in the Buckeye Division as part of Friday's Licking County League meet at Heath.

Willett also placed third in the 300 hurdles (41.28), and Aeydyn Well placed third in the long jump (20-8) for the Blue Devil boys, while Reagan Bailey placed second in the discus (89-5) and Ayawna Gladden finished second in the shot (28-9 1/2) to lead the Lady Devils.

Rosecrans' Zemba shines at MSL: Brody Zemba won the 100 (11.35) and took second in the 200 (23.31) to lead the Bishops in the Mid-State League Cardinal Division meet on Friday.

Connor Wells won the 110 hurdles (16.6) and came in third in the 300 hurdles (44.63), Ben Jackson finished second in the shot (41-1) and third in the discus (113-2), Evan Backus placed third in the 200 (23.68) and three relays placed among the top three. The 4x100 of Zemba, Wells, Backus and Tizian Schmelzer finished second (45.91), the 4x200 of Caleb Scott, Stephen Sagan, Carson Staunton and Schmelzer took third (1:43.69) and the 4x400 of Scott, Sagan, Backus and Zemba was third (3:49.05).
