Frankie Muniz will attempt to make NASCAR Xfinity Series United Rentals 300 field at Daytona

Finally, Frankie Muniz has broken his silence on the future of his racing career.

The 38-year-old former sitcom star will attempt to qualify for the United Rentals 300, the Xfinity Series opener at Daytona International Speedway next Saturday night, Feb. 17, in the No. 35 Joey Gase Racing Ford. The race will serve as the penultimate event in Speedweek leading up to next Sunday's 66th running of the Daytona 500.

Last year, Muniz competed in a full-time ARCA Menards Series season, finishing fourth in points with 11 top 10s.

"I know that moving up to Xfinity is a big leap for me, given my limited experience in stock cars," Muniz said via statement. "I understand the challenges ahead and know it will not always be easy.

"I know that I have an enormous amount to learn, but you won't find someone more dedicated than I am when it comes to chasing a dream."

Muniz will run a part-time schedule with the team and will need to qualify his way into the race on Saturday. The No. 35 car was split between Gase and Patrick Emerling last year.

"Joey Gase Motorsports is proud to welcome Frankie to the team," Gase added. "Undoubtedly, he brings a lot of attention to our team and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, but throughout the last couple of weeks, I've never seen a driver more determined or focused than Frankie.

The United Rentals 300 is schedule to start at 5 p.m. with qualifying at 11:30 a.m.
