Four Reasons Why the Raiders Shouldn’t Consider Marshawn Lynch

Marshawn Lynch is Oakland’s son. Many fans hold onto the dream of him coming out of retirement for his hometown team. Plus, the lineage of the number 24, passed from Brown to Woodson to Lynch fits so well. Additionally, Mark Davis could be concerned with angry Oakland fan sentiment. Also, the approved relocation and it’s sticky situations must weigh heavily. Four reasons exist for the Raiders to not attempt to acquire Lynch.

Still a Seahawk: At the present time, Seattle owns his rights. Technically, he’s retired from the organization, but the ‘Hawks hold all the cards. Seattle can demand a King City’s ransom. Yet, don’t expect Reggie to pull the trigger by giving up valuable draft or roster pieces.

2017 NFL Draft: How the cover32 team believes the first four rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft will unfold

Priorities: With Colts quarterback Andrew Luck signing a record breaking contract, Derek Carr will cash large checks. He led the Raiders to a 12-3 record, ending a fourteen year playoff drought. On the opposite side of the ball, Khalil Mack earned the NFL DPOY award. Consequently, the Raiders will pay Mack when contract negotiations commence. Not to mention, Gabe Jackson needs a raise.

Strong Draft Crop: In the 2017 NFL draft, running backs abound. Quality running backs could surface in every round. A franchise back like Dalvin Cook, or even Alvin Kamara of Tennessee, could become the everyday down back the Raiders desire. If McKenzie could find what he wants among the rookie class, expect the NFL Executive of the Year to continue building this contender through the draft.

Ugly Stadium Situation: Imagine Lynch taking the handoff from Carr and going up the middle for a touchdown, closing out the Coliseum. I have to admit, that would be beyond entertaining, but is it realistic? With Alameda County supervisor Larry Reid threatening to break the Coliseum lease, ugliness exists. Speaking to the to the East Bay Times, Reid stated “I don’t want them here. They can go down to Santa Clara and play.” It appears as though Oakland politicians are racing to change the locks despite Mark Davis’s “bittersweet” feelings for relocating to Vegas. A very obvious attempt to save the relationship with Oakland locals by signing Beast Mode may not be worth it in the end.

In essence, signing Lynch is a two-year Band-Aid to get this team to Las Vegas. Reggie McKenzie knows the window of opportunity remains open. For the most part, his moves focus on the long-term. Furthermore, I cannot see the Raiders investing money in a 30-year-old back.
