Former Wisconsin Badgers cornerback Terrance Floyd dies

Terrance Floyd, who played for the Wisconsin Badgers football team in the early 2010s, has died, the team announced Tuesday.

"Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Terrance Floyd," the football team's social media accounts wrote.

A cause of death wasn't listed.

Floyd's former teammates reacted to his death on the team's official Instagram account that announced his death.

  • Kenosha native and NFL veteran running back Melvin Gordon, who played all four of years with Floyd at Wisconsin, responded with white heart, dove and praying emojis: "🤍🕊️🙏🏾"

  • Wisconsin Rapids native Vince Biegel, who played over three years with Floyd on the Badgers defense and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2017, wrote: "Rest easy brother 🙏"

  • Milwaukee native and Houston Texans running back Dare Ogunbowale, who also played with Floyd, wrote: "Rest easy my brother."

  • Sojourn Shelton II, who played alongside Floyd at cornerback for two-plus seasons, wrote: "a GREAT person. Rest Easy TFloyd 💔"

  • Brookfield native Chikwe Obasih, who also played a couple seasons with Floyd on defense, offered his prayers: "🙏🏾🙏🏾."

Terrance Floyd's football career at Wisconsin

He played in 21 games across four seasons with the Badgers. Floyd redshirted his first year in Madison, before making his debut Sept. 1, 2012, against Northern Iowa. A reserve cornerback, he played in seven games as a freshman that season.

Floyd saw action in four games the following year before seeing his playing time increase his redshirt junior season. He played in nine games, including the Big Ten title game in 2014 against Ohio State. Floyd recorded his first multi-tackle game of his career against Rutgers on Nov. 1, 2014, when he got two.

He played in one game his redshirt senior season in 2015, the Badgers' opener against Alabama and had one tackle.

Terrance Floyd became elementary school teacher in Florida

Floyd graduated from UW-Madison in spring 2015 and then returned home to Florida to become an elementary school teacher, which the Badgers football team's social media post noted was "his passion."

Floyd came to Wisconsin as a three-star recruit out of Santaluces High School in Lantana, Florida. A Boynton Beach, Florida, native, he was a two-time captain and a do-it all type of player for Santaluces, starring on offense, defense and special teams. He was all-conference, all-district and all-county his junior and senior seasons. Floyd also earned team MVP honors his senior year.

Besides football, Floyd lettered in basketball and track and field in high school.
