Former UFC champ Eddie Alvarez a free agent after ‘amicably’ parting with ONE Championship

Eddie Alvarez is available to sign with any promotion after parting ways with ONE Championship.

Alvarez (30-8), a former Bellator and UFC lightweight titleholder, fought just four times under the ONE Championship banner after making his debut with the promotion in March 2019 following his UFC stint. South China Morning Post was first to report the news.

The 38-year-old hasn’t fought since April 2021, and confirmed Tuesday he “amicably” decided to terminate his ONE Championship contract, making him a free agent.

Check out Alvarez’s full statement below (via Twitter):

Confirmed ,I am no longer with ONE. We parted ways amicably and I remain on good terms with the ONE team. I want to thank Chatri for the opportunity and I look forward to watching their continued success. I’m officially a free agent and Ready to Hunt 👊🏼🔪 Tell me whose next ?UGK

Alvarez is no stranger to dealing with free agency. He’s competed for almost every major promotion throughout his career, but fought almost exclusively for Bellator from April 2009 to November 2013.

After a stressful exit from the Bellator roster, Alvarez joined the UFC and within four fights won the 155-pound belt from then-champ Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 in July 2016.

Alvarez would go to lose the belt to Conor McGregor at UFC 205 before parting with the promotion after two fights with Dustin Poirier and a win over Justin Gaethje.

Now, in the twilight of his career, Alvarez now finds himself looking for a new home.
