Former OU star Baker Mayfield leads Tampa Bay Buccaneers to division title, playoff berth

An NFC South title. A win over a former team. A $1 million incentive bonus.

Sunday proved to be a good one for former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield, who led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 9-0 road win over the Carolina Panthers. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 137 yards.

The Week 18 victory helped Tampa Bay (9-8) secure its third straight NFC South title, and Mayfield secured a $1 million incentive bonus for helping his team make the playoffs.

It's a well-deserved reward for Mayfield, who seems to have finally found a home in Tampa Bay.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft got released by the Panthers on Dec. 5, 2022. Mayfield, 28, then spent five games last season with the Los Angeles Rams before he signed with the Buccaneers on March 15.

Mayfield has thrown for career highs of 3,907 yards and 28 touchdowns this season. And as Tampa Bay prepares for the playoffs, Mayfield will make his first postseason appearance since his 2020 campaign with the Cleveland Browns.
