Former OU Sooners star Jocelyn Alo signs with professional softball team

OU's Jocelyn Alo runs the bases after hitting a grand slam in the fifth inning of a 15-0 win against UCLA on June 6.

Jocelyn Alo, the NCAA's all-time home run leader, has signed to play with the Smash It Vipers of the Professional Women's Fastpitch softball league.

Alo just helped Oklahoma win its second consecutive Women's College World Series. The Sooners beat Texas last week in the WCWS championship series before more than 12,000 fans on Wednesday and Thursday at USA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

It was not announced when Alo will join the Vipers, although the team was scheduled to play an exhibition series vs. the USSSA Pride from Tuesday through Friday in Shawnee, Kansas. A stop in Oklahoma is not currently on the Vipers' schedule.

The Hawaii native finished her collegiate career with 122 home runs, 27 more than previous record-holder and OU alum Lauren Chamberlain, who is commissioner of the Professional Women's Fastpitch circuit.

Alo was college softball's National Player of the Year the past two seasons. She is also a member of the U.S. National Team.

Also joining the Vipers is former Texas catcher Mary Iakopo.
