Former OU quarterback Caleb Williams still backs Sooners vs. Texas: 'Drop a Horns Down'

Quarterback Caleb Williams only played one season at Oklahoma, and only played Texas once during his time in Norman. But that apparently is enough to make him a Longhorns hater for life.

Williams, who transferred to USC ahead of the 2022 college football season, dropped a story on his Instagram account on Thursday that lets everyone know his loyalties still lie with the Sooners when it comes to the Red River Rivalry.

The story shows him in his former Oklahoma gear at the Cotton Bowl while making a sideways "Hook'em" gesture (presumably about to face them downward in a mockery of Texas' signal). He captioned his post, "Saxet hate week drop a Horns Down."

Williams, of course, is responsible for one of the most incredible Red River victories in Oklahoma history (and, conversely, one of the most devastating defeats in Longhorns history). He helped steer the Sooners back from a 28-7 first-quarter deficit, ultimately upending Texas 55-48 in the highest-scorest Red River Rivalry in history. It is also the biggest comeback in the history of the series.

That began at the start of the second quarter, when Williams shortened the Longhorns' lead to 28-14 with a 66-yard touchdown burst. Following a Spencer Rattler fumble two possessions later, former coach Lincoln Riley brought Williams on for the remainder of the game. The decision played out like perfectly for Oklahoma.

Williams finished the game completing 16 of 25 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns against the Longhorns, adding four rushes for 88 yards and that 66-yard touchdown run. He led the Sooners to scores on seven of nine drives, including four that ended in touchdowns.

What is Saxet Hate Week?

Saxet Hate Week is a week aimed toward the derision of Oklahoma's most-hated rival. "Saxet," of course, is simply Texas spelled backward. It's a mockery of the Longhorns in much the same way as "Horn Downs" or, in the Big Ten, Ohio State calling Michigan "That Team Up North."

Williams may be a Trojan these days (he followed Riley to L.A. ahead of the 2022 season), but it's clear he still has affection for Oklahoma.

Or, at least, hate for Texas.
