Former Northridge, Goshen coach Mike Logan passes away at 60

Mar. 14—Mike Logan, a longtime father, friend and coach in Elkhart County, has passed away.

Logan, 60, wore several different hats after graduating Elkhart Central High School and from Butler in 1986 where he lettered as a linebacker for the Bulldogs for two seasons.

Initially starting as the freshman football head coach and varsity assistant at Elkhart Central in 1986, he was hired by Middlebury Community Schools in 1987.

From there, Logan held down the defense coordinator position from 1988-2000. Meanwhile, the spirited coach took on the junior varsity baseball head coach title before becoming the Raiders varsity head coach in 1993. He still remains the winningest baseball head coach at Northridge, posting a 174-113-3 record during his 10 years at the helm which saw the Raiders win sectional titles in 1994 and 2002.

Logan's time with football continued throughout the years and found more success when Tom Wogomon brought the program to new heights starting his tenure during the 2013 season.

Logan joined Wogomon again when he jumped out of retirement to coach the Goshen RedHawks from 2022-2023. Also a substitute teacher at the school, Logan resigned by the end of 2023.

He was also a head coach for many years with the Michiana Scrappers, a travel baseball organization.

Many in the area were quick to send support for the longtime coach, mentioning kids who benefitted from Logan's tutelage and the memories those close to him shared throughout his life.

His time off the field as a teacher, father and husband were also highlighted amongst those closest to him. Comments from friends and coworkers shared "how lucky" they were to work side-by-side and how successful he was not just on the field but in his family life as well.

"Today the Raider family mourns the loss of Mike Logan," Northridge's football program posted on X (formerly Twitter). "Coach Logan had an everlasting, positive impact on countless students and athletes during his time at NHS. His fiery passion and commitment to excellence will forever be remembered at Northridge."

"Saddened to hear of the passing of former GHS football coach Mike Logan," said Goshen Athletics on X. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family."

He is survived by his wife Karin and sons Brock and Nicholas.
