Former Jets OL Jonotthan Harrison visiting with Bills

Another cut from Gang Green, another former Jets player to Buffalo?

The Bills have had a recent trend of looking into former Jets players. The most recent was offensive lineman Brian Winters, and again, another former Jets player from the trenches will reportedly have a free-agent visit with the Bills later this week in Jonotthan Harrison, according to ESPN.

The 29-year-old was cut by the Jets during their roster cuts over the weekend. In 2019, Harrison appeared in all 16 games for the Jets, making 10 starts. He has 42 starts in his career. Primarily a center, Harrison has also played guard in his career. Versatility is a trademark in Bills offensive lineman under head coach Sean McDermott.

The University of Florida product was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 and spent three seasons there. While making a chunk of starts at center last season, Harrison had a poor season by Pro Football Focus standards. His overall grade was a below average 51.4 mark, however, he did not allow a sack on 416 pass-blocking snaps. Harrison was also credited with taking three penalties a year ago.

The Bills could use Harrison’s experience as center as a player who could be a No. 2 behind the likes of Mitch Morse. Without Harrison, the Bills have Ike Boettger and Ryan Bates as their backup centers on the roster, who have limited NFL experience. There’s also Evan Boehm on the practice squad who started at center for the Dolphins in 2019 for eight games.

Currently injured starting right guard Jon Feliciano has also filled in as a backup center for the Bills in the past.

And hey, bringing in Harrison, a former Jet, just might be a decent idea a few days before opening your season against… the Jets.
