Former Dolphins exec interviewing for Chargers open GM job

As the eliminated teams prepare for their 2024 campaigns, many teams are looking to hire new coaches and front-office staff members to lead them for the foreseeable future.

One of those teams is the Los Angeles Chargers, who fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. On Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that one of the candidates for Los Angeles’ general manager job is someone with ties to the Miami Dolphins – Dawn Aponte.

Aponte has served as the NFL’s chief administrator of football operations since 2017, but prior to that she served as Miami’s senior vice president of football operations (2010-12) and executive vice president of football administration (2012-16).

During her time with the Dolphins, she focused on the salary cap and contract negotiations with the players, including extensions with Paul Soliai, Cameron Wake and Brian Hartline that all happened while she was in her role.

Now, Aponte has an opportunity to become the first female general manager in the game.
