Former Chiefs CB Steven Nelson to sign one-year deal with Eagles
A former Kansas City Chiefs third-round draft pick has found a new team.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Sunday that they’d signed cornerback Steven Nelson to a one-year deal. A 2015 third-round pick by Kansas City out of Oregon State, Nelson spent four seasons playing for the Chiefs before leaving to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’d spend just two seasons in Pittsburgh, having his contract terminated in March of 2021.
Nelson, 28, has a whopping 68 career starts to his name. He has experience playing both on the outside and in the slot during his time in Kansas City and Pittsburgh. He offers the Eagles another option opposite veteran starter Darius Slay, who was traded to Philadelphia from the Detroit Lions in March of 2020.
Nelson’s tenure with the Chiefs didn’t exactly end on good terms, which will be an intriguing storyline heading in the Eagles-Chiefs Week 4 matchup this season. The former draft pick had an unceremonious departure with the team on social media, sharing some strong feelings about his teammate Marcus Peters’ exit from Kansas City. He also felt Chiefs fans turned on him.
During his time in Pittsburgh, Nelson never got a chance to face his former team. In just a few months, he’ll have a chance to go up against Patrick Mahomes and the high-powered Kansas City offense.
