Former Bradley golfer wins third career Peoria Men's City title

Newman is a special place and a special name for Scott Phegley.

The former pro golfer from Bradley won his third career Peoria Men's City golf championship on Saturday, defeating Ryan Brown, 2 up, in the 97th annual event at Newman Golf Course in Peoria.

This is the third Men's City title for Phegley, the last in 2020 — also at Newman and taking place just months before his wife, Casie, gave birth to their son.

His name? Benjamin Newman Phegley.

"We hit a home run naming this guy," Phegley wrote on his Facebook page with photos of his boys. "He’s a little squirrelly and takes a lot of patience, just like Newman Golf Course."

Phegley, 39, won his first Men's City in 2015 at Kellogg Golf Course. He is one of only 14 golfers to win multiple Men's City titles.

Brown, who finished runner-up in 2019, rallied to keep the 36-hole finale close. He had defeated reigning two-time champ Brien Davis in the semifinals.

In the A Flight finale, second-seeded Eric Roof defeated No. 9 Jack Steinkoenig, 2 up.
