Former Alabama DL transferring to JUCO school in Mississippi

On Thursday, Matt Zenitz of On3Sports reported that former Alabama defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher was transferring to Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi. Sopsher was a four-star recruit in the class of 2019.

The college football journey has been an uphill climb for the Louisiana native. Out of high school, Sopsher signed with Alabama over LSU. Many recruiting experts thought that he was a lock to land in Baton Rouge. However, that wasn’t the case.

Sopsher had tremendous amounts of hype heading into the 2019 season in Tuscaloosa. In two seasons at the Capstone, he appeared in just one game.

After his second season at Alabama, he elected to enter the transfer portal and landed at USC. His career out West came to a near halt when he was diagnosed with compartment syndrome in February of 2021. It caused him to miss significant playing time. He appeared in just one game for the Trojans. Soon after the 2021 season ended, he elected to enter the transfer portal once more.

Now, he will transfer to his third school in four years: Southwest Mississippi Community College. It will be interesting to see how he performs and how his recruitment unfolds over the coming months.

Roll Tide Wire will continue covering Alabama football and the program’s former players as the 2022 offseason continues.
