Football roundup: Top-ranked Mason, No. 2 Ithaca roll to shutout victories

SEXTON 28, IONIA 14

Joseph Pizzo threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 98 yards and a pair of scores for the Division 4 No.-9 ranked J-Dubbs in their CAAC White victory. Jeffrey Hudson had 61 receiving yards and a score for Sexton (6-0, 5-0).

AJ Martel had six carries for 141 yards and three scores and Cason Carswell threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns for Division 3 top-ranked Mason (6-0, 4-0) in its CAAC Red win over host Eastern (0-6, 0-4). Kaleb Parrish had a 7-yard touchdown reception, and Derek Badgley had an interception and ran for a score for the Bulldogs, who claimed at least a share of the CAAC Red crown. Mason can claim the outright title with a home win over St. Johns next week.

EAST LANSING 45, EVERETT 14

EAST LANSING — Jace Clarizio ran for 131 yards and three touchdowns and had a 49-yard TD grab to help keep surging East Lansing unbeaten in the CAAC Blue. Ben Fletcher completed 10 of 14 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown and Dwataye Sams Jr. rushed for a score to help the Trojans (4-2, 3-0) push their win streak to four. The win, combined with Grand Ledge's loss to DeWitt, put East Lansing alone atop the CAAC Blue. Nizjai Davidson threw for 125 yards and a TD and rushed for a score for Everett (3-3, 1-2).

ITHACA 49, SAGINAW VALLEY LUTHERAN 0

Jackson Conn completed 5 of 6 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns and added two rushing scores as Division 8 No. 2-ranked Ithaca (6-0) rolled to another win. Owen Mikula had four catches for 105 yards and two TDs, Noah Risner ran for a touchdown and Ryley White returned a kick for a score and had a TD reception for the Yellowjackets.

HASLETT 15, FOWLERVILLE 8

FOWLERVILLE — Erik Lardie threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Carter Gerard to propel the Vikings to a CAAC Red road win over Fowlerville (1-5, 0-4). Bowling Green commit Nakai Amachree led the Vikings with a game-high 140 yards rushing and a touchdown and Gerard hauled in five receptions for 68 yards and a score for Haslett (4-2, 3-1).

WAVERLY 14, HOLT 7

HOLT — Jahi Wood led all rushers with 175 yards and a touchdown and threw for a score to help the Warriors outlast Holt for the CAAC Blue win. Cayden Bell tacked on 134 yards rushing for Waverly (2-4, 2-2). LaDon Hatcher ran for a team-high 62 yards and Cooper Benson connected with Chase Boomershine-Krumm for a passing score for the Rams (2-4, 1-3).

LANSING CATHOLIC 33, LAKEWOOD 20

Quarterback Alex Fernandez went 15 for 22 passing for 180 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 53 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cougars to a CAAC White home win over Lakewood. Joey Olson ran for 83 yards and a touchdown, Braden Rabideau hauled in five receptions for 77 yards and a score and Justin DeVarona tallied 49 yards receiving and a score for Lansing Catholic (3-3, 2-3). Bryson Haight threw for 142 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns and Ryan Galgoci and Brennan Lehman each grabbed a receiving touchdown for the Vikings (0-6, 0-5).

WILLIAMSTON 42, ST. JOHNS 26

ST. JOHNS — Zach Cribbs threw for 133 yards and a touchdown and added 118 yards rushing with a touchdown to help the Hornets pick up a road CAAC Red victory over St. Johns. Noah Dunckel ran for 107 yards and a touchdown and Tommy Pratt picked up 105 yards receiving and two touchdowns for Williamston (4-2, 3-1). Brandon Schomisch ran for a team-high 67 yards and Mark Bendele and Evan Peele each ran for 61 yards and a touchdown for the Redwings.

CHARLOTTE 42, OLIVET 6

CHARLOTTE — Christian Powers threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns for the Orioles (6-1, 5-1) in their CAAC White win. Ben Buzzard had five catches for 125 yards and a TD and Kaiden Holmes finished with 107 yards receiving and a score for Charlotte. Cutler Brandt added a pair of rushing scores for the Orioles.

PERRY 48, DANSVILLE 6

PERRY — Austin Poirier led the Ramblers with 220 yards passing and four touchdowns and ran for 110 yards and a score in a nonleague victory over Dansville (0-6). DJ Jenks pulled down four receptions and 85 yards with two touchdowns, Tim Hall grabbed five receptions and 100 yards, Aiden Brooks ran for 78 yards and a score and Cameron Doody led the defense with 12 tackles and two sacks for Perry (4-2).

STOCKBRIDGE 28, SARANAC 8

STOCKBRIDGE — Jalen Rogozinski threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers to a home victory over Saranac. Drew Robinson had 80 receiving yards, 66 rushing yards and two total touchdowns and Zac Rogozinski tallied a team-high 87 receiving yards and ran for 46 yards and a touchdown for Stockbridge (2-4). Carson Hardy punched in a rushing touchdown for the Red Hawks (4-2).

PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 44, VESTABURG 0

VESTABURG — Brady Leonard ran for a team-high 102 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 79 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Shamrocks to a MSAC Red victory over Vestaburg (0-6, 0-3). Brayden Simon finished with 79 yards rushing and 39 yards receiving, Riley Mosser hauled in two receiving scores and Tyler Groothuis chipped in a receiving touchdown for Portland St. Patrick (5-1, 3-1).

MAPLE VALLEY 56, BRITTON-DEERFIELD 6

Ayden Wilkes rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Evan Brandenburg had a kick return for a score and rushed for a touchdown as the Lions remained unbeaten. Jim Wiggs returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown, while James Penny and Jakeb McDonald also found the end zone for Maple Valley (4-0).

ALMA 41, BRIDGEPORT 24

Jacoby Dunlap threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score for the Panthers in their victory TVC win. Cade Sutherland had 152 receiving yards and a touchdown and Cole O'Boyle ran for 103 yards and a TD and Gavin McConnell hauled in two receiving scores for Alma.

PORTLAND 55, EATON RAPIDS 6

Keegan Gochenour threw for 148 yards and ran for a touchdown for the Greyhounds in the loss.

CHESANING 28, OVID-ELSIE 19

CHESANING — Tryce Tokar threw for 131 yards and a touchdown for the Marauders in a MMAC defeat to Chesaning (5-1, 4-0). Jamison Custer picked up 48 yards rushing and a touchdown to go with 47 yards receiving, Clayton Fruchey hauled in a team-high 72 yards receiving and Javen Belill pulled down a receiving score for Ovid-Elsie (3-3, 2-2).

CORUNNA 35, GOODRICH 7

The Division 5 No. 4-ranked Cavaliers (6-0, 4-0) claimed a share of the Flint Metro League Stars title with their win over Division 4 top-ranked Goodrich (5-1, 3-1).
