Football roundup: Late stand propels Lansing Catholic to upset win, Ithaca edges Fowler

LANSING CATHOLIC 35, MICHIGAN CENTER 34

MICHIGAN CENTER — Lansing Catholic came up with a stop at the 1-yard line on a 2 point conversion attempt to seal a Division 6 district semifinal victory over Michigan Center (7-3) on Friday. Quarterback Alex Fernandez led the Cougars, going 10-for-14 passing for 184 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 179 yards and two scores. Joe Gulock grabbed two receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, Ben Selesky and Connor Gallagher each pulled down receiving scores and Gary Tackett hauled in two interceptions for Lansing Catholic. The Cougars (4-6) will move on and face Ovid-Elsie (6-4) in the district final.

ITHACA 28, FOWLER 27

ITHACA — Ryley White had the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter and the extra point that followed from Joe Dawe proved to be the difference for the No. 2-ranked Yellowjackets (10-0) in their Division 8 district semifinal win over Fowler (8-2). Noah Risner and Nathan Mikesell had rushing scores for Ithaca, which also had Kalen Hallock return an interception 75 yards for a touchdown,

DeWITT 56, FENTON 28

DeWITT — Traverse Moore led all rushers with 172 yards to go with a school-record five touchdowns to help the No. 9-ranked Panthers to a Division 3 district semifinal win over Fenton (6-4). Abram Larner finished with 141 yards rushing and a touchdown, Elliott Larner threw for 129 yards and a touchdown to go with 98 yards rushing and Robert Lillie punched in a rushing score for DeWitt. The Panthers (7-2) will take on Mason (10-0) in the district final next week.

MASON 45, LINDEN 20

MASON — Cason Carswell completed 17 of 21 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns for the top-ranked Bulldogs (10-0) in a Division 3 district semifinal win over Linden. AJ Martel added 127 yards rushing and two touchdowns and added five receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown and an interception on defense. Tyler Baker added an interception, while Kaleb Parrish had six catches for 85 yards and a TD for Mason, which will host DeWitt next week.

HASLETT 31, ADRIAN 12

HASLETT -- Nakai Amachree led all rushers with 209 yards and three touchdowns to propel the Vikings to a Division 4 district semifinal victory over Adrian (6-4). Kory Amachree picked up 57 yards rushing and a score, Brody Quinn finished with a team-high five tackles and Will King made a 23-yard field goal for Haslett. The Vikings (7-3) will head to the district final to take on Chelsea (9-1) next week.

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 47, PERRY 9

WESTPHALIA — Quarterback Dylan May had 160 yards rushing and five total touchdowns as Pewamo-Westphalia secured a spot in a Division 7 district final with a win over Perry. Brayton Thelen led all rushers with 193 yards and a score, Gabe Miller hauled in a receiving score and Cayden Spitzley punched in a rushing touchdown for Pewamo-Westphalia. Austin Poirier ran for a team-high 68 yards and a touchdown and threw for 97 yards for the Ramblers (5-5). The Pirates (9-1) will host Bath (7-3) in the district final next week.

BATH 16, LAINGSBURG 14

Bradlee Uhlmann ran for 199 yards and a touchdown and Andrew Raphael added 69 yards receiving and a TD for the Bees in their Division 7 playoff win.

OVID-ELSIE 14, IDA 3

ELSIE — Tryce Tokar had 96 yards rushing, 88 yards passing and two total touchdowns to help the Marauders top Ida (5-5) and move on to a Division 6 district final. Carter Kelley notched 74 yards rushing, Clayton Fruchey grabbed six receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown and Brock Spitzley led the defense with nine tackles for Ovid-Elsie. The Marauders advance to face Lansing Catholic (4-6) in the district final.
