Football results: Big Central Conference and area roundup for Week 7

SATURDAY

A.L. Johnson 48, Spotswood 0: Ryan George rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns, catching a nine-yard TD pass and A.L. Johnson dealt Spotswood its first loss, and in dominant fashion. Quarterback Robert Gallagher threw for 132 yards and two scores, with Joshua Maltez-Torres catching a scoring pass and Dylan Mulroy running one in for the Crusaders (5-2). Steven Ciccotelli recorded 11 tackles to pace ALJ, which also got a recovered fumble by John Brown. Spotswood (7-1), which trailed 42-0 at halftime, was held to just 32 total yards.

Pingry 30, Morristown-Beard 16: Josh Woodford rushed for two touchdowns, while Rafferty Harris and Matt Galusha added rushing scores and Pingry stayed undefeated. Harris also notched two sacks in the win, while Jack Moye, Langston McDonald and Charles Levine each grabbed interceptions for the Big Blue (6-0).

FRIDAY'S RESULTS

Hunterdon Central 35, Franklin 0: RJ Hart completed 8-of-11 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns, and Jake Saus scored two rushing touchdowns, rushing 12 times for 94 yards, and caught a 76-yard scoring pass, and Hunterdon Central snapped a three-game losing streak, improving to 5-3. Hart connected twice with Evan Amato, who grabbed three passes for 78 yards, on two touchdown passes, including on a 68-yard strike. Franklin fell to 2-6.

St. Joseph 24, Watchung Hills 21: Javon Hudson returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and Jason Ridges added a short TD run and St. Joseph-Metuchen held of Watchung Hills, winning its fourth straight to improve to 5-2. Tyler Huseth added a 22-yard field goal for the Falcons. Watchung Hills got a 78-yard touchdown run from quarterback Aleks Sitkowski to get the scoring going, before St. Joseph scored 24 unanswered. The Warriors (6-2) got a long TD pass from Sitkowski to Jack Clintock just before halftime to close the deficit to 24-14, and a 95-yard kickoff return for a score from David Dubas to open the second half, but the Falcons pitched a shutout the rest of the way.

Montgomery 35, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 0: Michael Schmelzer threw a touchdown pass and ran one in, and Matt D’Avino caught seven passes for 210 yards and a score and Montgomery posted the shutout, earning head coach Zoran Milich his 100th career victory. Post scored three rushing touchdowns in the win, adding 12 tackles, including one for a loss. Zach Schick grabbed an interception for the Cougars, who moved to 8-0. Trey McFadden finished 5-for-5 kicking extra points in the win. Scotch Plains-Fanwood is 1-7.

Hillsborough 14, Somerville 7: Alex Ridling threw a touchdown pass and scored another on the ground and the defense did the rest, sending Hillsborough to 7-1. Somerville, which fell to 4-4, got things started with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Brenden Pacheco to Quinn Caran. But Reiling scored on a one-yard run with 41 second left in the first, before hitting Roberto Santiago with a 38-yard TD bomb that proved to be the game-winner. Jackson Jankowicz rushed for 144 yards in the win, while Tyler Van Cleef grabbed an interception.

Bernards 38, New Providence 14: Five different players scored Bernards touchdowns and Jonas Gonzalez booted a 30-yard field goal and Bernards remained undefeated. Terrence Hanratty, Jake Caldwell, Logan Stevens and Patrick Carlisle all ran in scores for the Mountaineers (8-0), with Connor Laverty hitting Max Austin with a 40-yard touchdown pass in the win. Caldwell also nabbed an INT for the Mountaineers. Ben Gullo scored twice for New Providence (4-4).

Phillipsburg 27, Union 6: Kevin Burgess scored on a 24-yard run and caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Jett Genovese and Phillipsburg surged from a 7-6 halftime lead to its sixth win. Genovese finished 13-for-18 for 199 yards and three touchdowns, throwing two interceptions. The quarterback, who was making his return to the lineup after a two-game absence, connected with Burgess, Ricky Krouse and Michael Bracco on TD passes, while Sam Dech gobbled up 95 yards on 19 carries as the Stateliners improved to 6-1. Burgess finished with four catches for 103 yards. Erick Reyes ran in an eight-yard touchdown for Union (4-4).

Roselle 42, Bound Brook 7: Ajani Phillips rushed 20 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns and Farrel Castell caught a touchdown pass and picked up 57 rushing yards and a score and Roselle posted its third straight victory to improve to 3-4. Brandon Puryear threw a touchdown pass and ran in another for the Rams, while Shymir Burgess added 70 rushing yards and a score. Timothy Porter posted six tackles and an assist, while Keyan King went for six tackles and two sacks in the win. Valaire Hervinho finished 6-for-6 kicking PATs for Roselle. Bound Brook is 1-6.

Plainfield 48, Monroe 14: Ala-Meen Watkins threw four touchdown passes, adding a three-yard scoring run, and Plainfield continued its resurgent season with another impressive win. Al-Khabir Bethune paced the Cardinals (5-2), catching TD passes of 38 and 65 yards, while Kamai Lowery and Loel Cordoba also hauled in scoring tosses in the win. Yasir Wyatt (46 yards) and E.J. Brown (13 yards) also scored rushing TDs for Plainfield. Monroe fell to 2-6.

Sayreville 24, Piscataway 16: Zamir Wright’s third touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter of a game Sayreville trailed by one point, and it proved the winner, as the Bombers moved to 6-2. Wright finished with 18 carries for 238 yards and the three scores, with Aaron Losada’s second-quarter 24-yard field goal accounting for the rest of Sayreville’s points. Landon Pernell threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns for Piscataway (4-4), one going to Jahai Johnson and the other to De’Shuan Stephens.

Middlesex 36, Brearley 14: Ricky Fittin rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns, and Dom Parenti threw a TD pass and ran one in to boost Middlesex (6-1). Jonathan Hines caught a TD in the win and Jax Jarvis ran one in. Joey Lawler paced the Blue Jays defense with 10 tackles, while Aidan Bush grabbed an interception, and Joe Johnson and Dakota Clark each recovered fumbles in the victory. The Bears fell to 3-4.

Old Bridge 51, New Brunswick 0: Stephen Davies ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns and Zahmir Evans recorded 10.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four forced fumbles and Old Bridge notched the shutout. Brody Nugent threw a TD pass in the win, caught by Jaden Griffith, while Nugent, Brody Hunt and Jeremiah Dixon all reached the end zone on the ground for the Knights (3-5). The Zebras are 0-8.

Manville 49, Highland Park 22: Sophomore quarterback Josh D’Ambrosio accounted for five Manville touchdowns, throwing four and running one in, and the Mustangs improved to 3-5. Isaiah Bennett added 17 carries for 293 yards and scores of 67 and 62 yards, respectively, to get things going for Manville. Na’Quavere Thomas nabbed two receiving TDs in the win, including a 55-yarder. Jimmy Conover and Collin Shimp also caught TD passes, with Conover grabbing two interceptions. Highland Park is 0-7.

Immaculata 47, Morris Catholic 0: Mason Geis threw for 122 yards and connected with Anthony Brown on three touchdowns, adding a rushing score, and Immaculata rolled to 5-1. Brown finished with four catches for 103 yards, adding a 17-yard run. Joe Fleming (12-102), Jahmier Black and Makail Muhammed also ran in scores for the Spartans.

Voorhees 42, J.F. Kennedy 7: Waylon Jowaiszas returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to get the scoring started in the first quarter and Voorhees never looked back, improving to 5-3. Isaac Levitan finished with two touchdown passes, both to Justin Wistuba, who added 81 rushing yards and a score in the win. Brandon Kurzeja and Cameron Baumann also scored rushing TDs for the Vikings. The Mustangs are 0-7.

Linden 16, Cranford 13: Amari Petgrave ran 14 times for 60 yards and a touchdown and Tyler Veltre added 43 yards on 14 attempts and a score, but it wasn’t enough for Cranford (4-3). Linden improved to 6-2.

North Brunswick 43, East Brunswick 7: Tamir Gladden-Boone rushed for 95 yards on seven carries with two touchdowns as the Raiders (7-0) remained undefeated. Al Trevelise threw for 102 yards (6-of-9) and a score to Demba Conteh (2-40). Also scoring on the ground were Jahir Dawud (2-72) and Samaad Hicks (4-38 and three 2-point conversions). NOTE: Defensive stats will be added Saturday.

St. Thomas Aquinas 49, North Plainfield 0: Chase Young rambled for 144 yards on 10 carries with scores of 16 and 22 yards in balanced effort for the undefeated Trojans (8-0). Elijah Abass-Shereef added 134 yards on six carries (60-yard TD run). STA got its fifth shutout of the season and opened a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and led 35-0 at halftime. Roman Blanks went 4-of-5 for 62 yards and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Zacai Manigo and an 18-yard TD to Shawn Young. Also behind center, Cole Watkins was 3-of-3 for 60 yards and connected with Josiah Zayas for a 19-yard score. Christian Magliacano led with 10 tackles on defense and rushed for a 19-yard score. Jack Joyce was 7-for-7 in extra points.

South Hunterdon 41, Dayton 7: Edward Cooper rushed for three touchdowns, and quarterback Anthony Venettone ran for 144 yards and threw for 73 yards and a score and Sout Hunterdon won its seventh straight after an opening-day loss. Ryan Rampel and Ryder Manfready also ran in scores for the Eagles (7-1), while Aaron Zalescik caught a TD pass. Thomas Breuer recovered two fumbles in the win. Brandyn Bernknopf caught a TD pass for Dayton (1-6).

Hillside 38, Delaware Valley 7: Stoy Fohring ran in a 10-yard touchdown and Delaware Valley led 7-0 early, but Hillside (5-2) scored twice before halftime and surged in the second half to send the Terriers to 4-3.

Woodbridge 41, North Hunterdon 7: A.J. Bosch caught four passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, adding 61 rushing yards and another score, as well as a 96-yard punt return for a TD and Woodbridge rolled to 6-2. Derek Anderson completed 6-of-9 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns, while Jamir Beal scored on a 50-yard run and a 75-yard kickoff return to start the second half and cap the scoring. Brenden Zundel caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Anderson for the game’s first points, but Woodbridge tallied six unanswered TDs to send the Lions to 0-8.

South Plainfield 29, Perth Amboy 27: Dominic Massaro gobbled up 281 yards on the ground, reaching the end zone three times, and Emmanuelle White added another TD run and South Plainfield escaped a trip to Perth Amboy with a win. Justin Hannon added a 26-yard field goal for the Tigers (4-4). Jahmeil Brown ran 11 times for 90 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers (2-6), adding a touchdown pass to Adian Maggie.

Carteret 19, Rahway 15: Darius Armstrong ran 15 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Tyrance Parrott ran in a score and connected with Hezekiah Ragland on a TD pass and Carteret scored an impressive win to improve to 7-1. Rahway slid to 3-5.
