Fond du Lac/Oshkosh area high school football: Week 9 preview & live score updates

Time sure has flown by! It's already the final week of regular season high school football action throughout Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, and all across Wisconsin.

There are multiple playoff scenarios to be played out tonight as Fond du Lac, Lomira, Mayville, Omro and Oshkosh West all currently sit on the outside looking in, needing wins to continue their season.

Omro (3-5, 2-4 Flyway) at Campbellsport (6-2, 4-2 Flyway) – A loss eliminates Omro. A win against Campbellsport would keep them on the bubble, but they're very likely to get in via tiebreakers thanks to a quality victory and strength of schedule.

Mayville (4-4, 3-3 Flyway) at Lomira (4-4, 3-3 Flyway) – The winner is in. The loser stays on the bubble and remains subject to tiebreakers. Mayville’s tiebreaker number is slightly better thanks to a non-conference victory against playoff team Horicon/Hustisford, while Lomira would still be projected to get in, despite a loss, as one of the last tiebreaker teams.

Oshkosh West (2-4) at Fond du Lac (3-3) – A Fond du Lac win puts the Cardinals in and leaves West out. A West victory would put both teams on the bubble, but both are likely to get in, especially Fond du Lac, who has the lone win over No. 4 (D-2) Kaukauna (8-1, 6-1 Fox Valley Association) this season.

The following area teams have already secured a playoff spot: Berlin, Campbellsport, Lourdes Academy, Oakfield, Saint Mary's Springs, Winnebago Lutheran, Winneconne

These teams have officially been eliminated from postseason contention: Laconia, North Fond du Lac, Oshkosh North, Ripon, Waupun

Games of the Week: No. 2 (D-6) St. Mary's Springs (8-0, 6-0 Flyway) @ No. 3 (D-5) Winnebago Lutheran (8-0, 6-0 Flyway) - Flyway Conference Championship

The Vikings called their shot. The expectation was set to be 8-0 heading into the final week of the season against Springs, whom they expected to also be undefeated. These players have been looking forward to this matchup not just for weeks, but for months - ever since last season ended. WLA is hungry and yearning to show everyone that they're the top dogs this year. What better way to prove it than by dueling it out in wet, sloppy conditions at home.

As for Springs, last year they fell short of their annual goal of bringing home another state championship. Being undefeated in the final week of the regular season is familiar territory for the Ledgers. They're poised, experienced, and also hungry for more hardware to display in their hallway. Legendary head coach Bob Hyland has two more runs left before he calls it a career. There's a lot to play for in this game.

Abundant Life/St. Ambrose (6-1, 3-0 Ridge & Valley-East) @ No. 5 (8-Player) Oakfield (7-0, 3-0 R&V-East) - R&V-East Conference Championship

This game settles the Ridge & Valley-East conference in 8-Player football. Oakfield is looking to finish the regular season as conference champs with an undefeated record, but first they'll face their toughest competition yet.

Quarterback Bailey Schepp, running back Hunter Sabel, and Fond du Lac Area Player of the Year finalist Mitchell Moser lead the Oaks, who fell just a game short of clinching the conference championship last season before getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Oakfield defeated Abundant Life/St. Ambrose on the road in Madison last year, 43-8.
