Flu game coming? Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes will play against Broncos with illness

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is reportedly dealing with an illness heading into Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

Mahomes is still expected to play, although he was added to the Chiefs’ injury report before the game.

The Chiefs visit the Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET inside Empower Field at Mile High.

"Better today than yesterday. He'll play," NFL Network’s Ian Rapport posted on social media regarding Mahomes.

Mahomes, star tight end Travis Kelce and the Chiefs are 6-1 with the No. 1 seed in the AFC through seven weeks. They've won six consecutive games since falling in Week 1 to the Detroit Lions.

Kansas City has won 16 games in a row against Denver heading into Sunday.

But news of Mahomes’ illness – coupled with the looming game conditions – could even the playing field for the Broncos.

The Denver area experienced snowfall and temperatures dropped into the 20s on Saturday night and Sunday morning before the game. The high is expected to be 29 degrees on Sunday and an inch of snow is possible, according to the National Weather Service in Denver.

Sean Payton’s Broncos are 2-5, and in last place in the AFC West through seven weeks.
