Florida football’s state-of-the-art facility set for grand opening

·2 min read

The big day has finally arrived for Florida football as the program gets set to unveil the 142,000-square foot, $85 million James W. “Bill” Heavener Football Training Center on Sunday. Many years in the making, the new facility is expected to take the Orange and Blue to the next level both on the playing field and the recruiting trail.

The Heavener Center is designed to help streamline the day-to-day operations of the program as well as overall time management for the team. The practice fields are currently a long walk from the locker room inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a distance of over 600 yards to and fro, while the nascent edifice now resides right next to the training grounds and is attached to the indoor facility.

Ahead of the momentous occasion, new head coach Billy Napier offered a few thoughts on Friday in a released statement.

“Everyone wants to talk about recruiting when it comes to the facility, but I think it’s more important to our player experience. It screams commitment and certainly the efficiency of how we’re going to be able to improve as an organization. Time is of the essence and I think the new facility is going to create more efficiency for everyone involved.”

Other student-athletes on campus will also be able to get in on the action in the front quadrant of the massive facility, which includes the dining area and athlete lounges, as well as a resort-style swimming pool and large hot tub, along with a basketball court. They also get access to the barber shop, a virtual reality room, a gaming and golf center, and a recording studio.

The new building is a huge gain for both the students and the coaches, which also includes a 13,000-square-foot weight room and training area along with plenty of office space for the staff. The future is looking pretty bright in Gainesville with this much-needed addition.
