Five offensive players who need to play well in Friday’s scrimmage

Nick Saban and the Alabama football team will hold its first scrimmage of the spring on Friday afternoon before having the weekend off for Easter.

Coach Saban and the Tide generally don’t allow much information to be released from the closed scrimmages but there are always some little hints sprinkled throughout Coach Saban’s comments afterward.

With the scrimmage just a few hours away, Roll Tide Wire thought it would be a good idea to look at five players from each side of the ball that need to step up and perform well in the first game-like situation of the spring.

Here are five players from the offense:

Darrian Dalcourt

Darrian Dalcourt is entering his fifth season with the Tide and has several starts under his belt. Dalcourt has taken reps at both center and left guard this spring and his best chance of earning a starting spot is at guard. With younger and more talented players nipping at his heels, Dalcourt needs to put up a strong performance if he hopes to hold on to a starting spot.

Roydell Williams

Senior Roydell Williams finds himself in an interesting spot this spring. Jase McClellan is the likely starter but reps behind him are up for grabs and younger players such as Jam Miller and Justice Haynes has a higher ceiling than Williams. If Williams wants to stay in the running back rotation, he will need to prove his worth.

Jermaine Burton

Jermaine Burton finished the 2022 season on a strong note and really needs to carry that over into the 2023 season. Burton certainly has the talent, but the question is if he can be a consistent performer or not.

Amari Niblack

New offensive coordinator Tommy Rees loves to implement the tight ends in his play calling and second-year player Amari Niblack could be one of the beneficiaries. Niblack has receiver skill and could be one of Alabama’s secret weapons this fall. This spring will be a good indication of Niblack has developed physically enough to take that next step.

Jalen Milroe

All eyes and ears are on the quarterback competition in Tuscaloosa. Jalen Milroe, being the elder statesman of the two, is likely receiving plenty of opportunities to win the job. Milroe really needs to perform well in the scrimmage if he hopes to hold off Ty Simpson.
