First Amazon Black Friday game will feature Miami Dolphins and N.Y. Jets, as some NFL schedule details revealed
The day after Thanksgiving has always been about leftovers and shopping. Starting this year the day also known as Black Friday will be a little bit different thanks to the NFL and Amazon.
For the first time ever, the NFL will have a game on the schedule for the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year − more so online now in the digital age compared to years ago when the local mall was the place to be.
It was announced on Wednesday by the NFL and Amazon that the Miami Dolphins will play the New York Jets in the historic game. The full 2023 NFL schedule will be released on Thursday at 8 p.m. Many of the games are being announced in advance to promote the schedule announcement, which is a big day for NFL fans in Florida, with the Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The game is Nov. 24. Kickoff is 3 p.m. Miami and New York will play at MetLife Stadium, the home of the Jets, in New Jersey.
Amazon's Prime Video started exclusively broadcasting 15 Thursday Night Football games in 2022. The Black Friday game will be free to watch for all fans, regardless of whether they pay for a Prime membership.
There are several story angles that should attract fans, including two AFC East rivals facing off and a rising star quarterback for the Dolphins in Tua Tagovailoa and a quarterback legend, Aaron Rodgers, who is playing his first season for the Jets after being traded by the Green Bay Packers.
The Dolphins are also going to play in Germany, on Nov. 5, against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. It is one of five NFL games in Europe this year − two in Germany and three in London.
How did the Miami Dolphins do in 2022?
The Dolphins made the playoffs for the first time since 2016, finishing with three straight winning seasons for the first time since the 2001–2003 seasons.
With an 8–3 record by Week 12, the Dolphins had their best start since the 2001 season.
However, despite starting the season 8–3, the Dolphins suffered a late-season collapse, losing five straight games.
However, they won their final regular-season game over the New York Jets to earn another winning season, matching their 9–8 record from the previous year, and made it into the playoffs.
Miami finished second in the AFC East division.
The Dolphins season ended with a 34-31 Wildcard Playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Four players made it to the NFL Pro Bowl.
