It's the final countdown: Ranking the Top 125 players in Delaware high school football

It’s the biggest, most time-consuming and complicated thing we do all year.
Take about 3,000 high school football players from 46 teams across Delaware, narrow them down to what we judge to be the 125 best – then put them in order.
How big of a role do they play on their team? How much do they impact the game planning of an opponent? Do they have the size, speed and skill to continue playing at the college level?

How would their performance change if they were on a better or worse team? How did the coaches in their class rate their play in All-State voting? Did they play well against the toughest competition? Would players from smaller schools have as big of an impact if they played at a larger school?
Those are just some of the questions we think about when trying to rate each player, then put them in order.
There really are no right or wrong answers. But we watch about 40 games per year in person, plus many more on tape. We talk to coaches and trusted observers from around the state all season, getting their opinions on their own players and opponents that impressed them.
