Aug. 3—Saturday night at Rio Grande Credit Union Field, the Albuquerque Isotopes will be playing as their wildly popular alter ego, Los Mariachis de Nuevo Mexico.

And, back by popular demand in the Isotopes gift shop for one (more) game only, will be the Cinco de Mayo-inspired jerseys and Mariachis hats.

"It's not just the hats, it's the specialty version of the chile inspired jerseys as well," Isotopes General John Traub said of Saturday's return-to-the-shelves merchandise that was originally supposed to have only been available for their huge Cinco de Mayo/Mariachis Night game that drew an announced crowd of 15,817 — the top attended game in the country for Minor League Baseball as of that date and still one of the top five attended MILB games nationwide this season.

"They were so popular on CdM, we decided to bring them back on CdA (Cinco de August) as part of our Red vs. Green Chile theme. The demand has been through the roof for these items."

Since introducing their Mariachis alter ego as part of the 2018 Copa de la Diversión promotion that Minor League Baseball launched to specifically target and engage with Hispanic communities across the country, the Isotopes have enjoyed plenty of accolades for their Mariachi Nigh games and merchandise, including winning in 2020 a fan vote for best hat.

As described by the Isotopes of the Mariachis logo, "The sugar skull-centric logo pays homage to the importance of Día de los Muertos in the Hispanic culture, and including "Nuevo México" in the special event series' name reflects the importance of mariachis and sugar skulls to the entire state of New Mexico."

Since its inception, there have been variations on the color scheme — originally black and red, later introducing turquoise into the design and the Cinco de Mayo hats had a red, green and black on a white backdrop look to them.

So, which is your favorite of the hot-selling Mariachis hats at Isotopes Park?

1. Original (black/red on white)

2. Turquoise on black

3. Turquoise on white

4. Cinco de Mayo (red/green/black on white)
