Faulkton Area jumps up to No. 1 in the state's Class 9B football division

Watertown High School's football and volleyball teams each are now rated and Faulkton Area is the new No. 1 team in Class 9B in this week South Dakota Prep Media football and volleyball polls.

Watertown moved to No. 4 in Class 11AA football with a 33-0 win over Brookings. The Arrow volleyball team started 3-1 and is now ranked No. 5 in Class AA.

Faulkton Area (2-0) leaped from No. 4 to No. 1 in Class 9B football after beating No. 1 Hitchcock-Tulare last week. Hitchcock-Tulare slipped to No. 4.

Hamlin (2-0) moved up two spots to No. 2 in Class 9AA football. Other area ranked football teams include Sioux Valley (2-0, No. 3 in Class 11B), Elkton-Lake Benton (2-0, No. 4 in Class 9AA), Warner (1-0, No. 2 in Class 9A) and De Smet (1-1, No. 2 in Class 9B.

Aberdeen Central (0-1 in Class 11AA), Deuel (2-0 in Class 11B), Castlewood (0-1 in Class 9A), Herreid-Selby Area (1-1 in Class 9B), Potter County (2-0 in Class 9B) and Arlington (1-0 in Class 9B) also received votes in the football poll.

Warner (5-0) remains No. 1 and Northwestern (4-2) No. 3 in Class B volleyball. Castlewood (2-0) moved into the rankings at No. 5.

Aberdeen Central (3-0 in Class AA) and Faulkton Area (1-0 in Class B) also received votes in the volleyball poll.

The South Dakota Prep Media football polls for the week of Aug. 28 are listed below, ranking the top-five teams in each class, record, total points and previous ranking. First-place votes received are indicated in parentheses. Next week’s poll will come out on Tuesday, Sept. 5, due to the Labor Day holiday.
