Ex-FAU DB Meiko Dotson, national co-leader in INTs, transfers to Florida State

Florida State landed some immediate secondary help over the weekend.

Meiko Dotson, who tied for the national lead in interceptions last season at Florida Atlantic, announced Saturday night that he will play his final season at FSU. Dotson’s nine interceptions tied San Diego State’s Luq Barcoo for the national lead. Dotson, who also tallied 30 tackles, earned first-team All-Conference USA honors

Florida State will be the fourth school for Dotson, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida. Dotson signed with Georgia Tech in its 2015 recruiting class. He redshirted his first year on campus, played in two games in 2016 and then transferred to Garden City Community College in Kansas.

From there, Dotson returned to his home state to play for Lane Kiffin at FAU. An injury sidelined him for the 2018 campaign before he had his breakout 2019 season. After Kiffin left FAU to take the Ole Miss job, Dotson decided to enter the transfer portal.

Now Dotson will close out his winding college career by playing for Mike Norvell, who is entering his first season at FSU following a successful run at Memphis. He provides the Seminoles with an experienced option opposite Asante Samuel Jr., who earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2019.

Dotson is the second graduate transfer to choose Florida State in recent days. The Seminoles also landed a commitment from ex-Baylor defensive end Deonte Williams. Williams played in 13 games for Baylor in 2017 and 2018, combining for 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and a sack. A broken arm cost him half of the 2018 season and he ended up being medically disqualified for 2019. Now healthy, he will play out his final season at FSU, where his father Alphonso Williams played as a defensive back from 1985-88.

Florida State went 6-7 in 2018.
