ESPN’s Paul Finebaum highlights Alabama-Arkansas as the ‘most interesting game’

This weekend will feature plenty of top matchups in the SEC and around the college football landscape. One of those marquee games will feature two top 25 SEC West teams when the Alabama Crimson Tide comes to Fayetteville. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is certainly looking forward to this matchup and even called it the game of the week.

“I think it is Alabama at Arkansas,” Finebaum said on Keyshawn, JWill, and Max. “That game has lost a little bit because Arkansas lost in a bizarre fashion to A&M the other day in Jerry’s world, but this is probably the toughest game Alabama is going to have, at least until the SEC championship game. I’m locked into this, the idea of Alabama losing or potentially losing a game. I realize they are a 16 or 17-point favorite. But I am locked into this game.”

Finebaum went on to discuss the North Carolina State-Clemson matchup that features two top 10 teams. But back to the Arkansas-Alabama matchup, yes the Tide are the No. 2 team in the country and the likely SEC West representative in the title game. However, the Razorbacks are at home and that bodes well for Arkansas.

The team has lost 14 straight to Alabama, it would be 15 but the 2007 contest that ended in a score of 41-38 was vacated. The last Hogs win came in 2006 when they knocked off the pre-Saban Tide, 24-23 in Fayetteville. As they say, it can’t rain forever. Does Pittman’s team have what it takes to knock off the defending SEC champs as a three-score underdog?

Arkansas played within a touchdown last season, the score was 34-28 with under six minutes remaining before a Bryce Young to Jameson Williams’ 40-yard connection allowed them to build the lead ago. As wild as this season has already been with upsets, anything is possible but it should be closer than a 17-point margin.
