Some Cooke County teams rebounded from tough Week 5 losses Friday night, and a couple suffered drubbings at home.

The biggest winner was Era, which blanked Chico 49-0 to notch its first win of the season. Whitesboro and Muenster managed solid home wins, and Lindsay fell to visiting Celeste. Gainesville and Sacred Heart both struggled out of the gate and lost big to Aubrey and Lubbock Christian, respectively.

Era 49, Chico 0

Era (1-4) had to go on on the road to get it, but the Hornets' first win of 2023 finally came Friday night at Chico (1-3).

Quarterback Cole Stevens led the way for the Hornets. After an early safety against Chico, he hit wide receiver Bradyn Bookhout on a 27-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Stevens used his feet for the next TD, pushing in from a yard out to give Era a 16-0 lead. He connected in the air for two more scores before halftime, a 13-yard strike to Landon Outlaw and another connection with Bookhout, that one for 30 yards.

Running back Hagen Reed racked up 123 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries, including an 85-yard sprint to give Era a 37-0 lead early in the third quarter. He followed that up moments later by running in another TD from eight yards out.

Hunter Jarvis scored a TD for the Hornets' defense on a fumble return to close out the scoring later in the third quarter.

"I am proud of the effort and how the kids played throughout the entire game," Era Head Coach Terry Felderhoff told the Register. "The offense moved the ball well both on the ground and through the air. We had some penalties that took away another score and some long gains that we have to clean up, (but) the defense did great, allowing only 53 yards and no first downs in the first half."

The Hornets are back home this Friday, hosting Lindsay (2-4) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Muenster 32, Santo 14

Muenster evened its record at 3-3 for the year with a 32-14 home win over Santo (1-4) Friday.

The Hornets jumped on the visitors early and often, taking a 24-0 lead into halftime. The ground game led the way, with quarterback Casey Carney (16 carries for 78) and running back Nolan Peel (13-74) each running in two touchdowns. Carney added seven completions on 13 attempts for 103 yards in the air. Brody Tyler led the receivers with 50 yards on the night, all in one play.

Muenster (3-3) is off this Friday, then goes to Chico (1-3) Oct. 13, for a 7 p.m. kickoff. They return home Oct. 20 for the annual Kraut Bowl matchup against Lindsay.

Aubrey 55, Gainesville 7

It was a tough night for Gainesville (4-2) Friday, as visiting Aubrey (2-4) dashed out to a 42-0 halftime lead on its way to a 55-7 win.

Aubrey's Emerson Cagle and Dylan Brooks were the main culprits, slicing up the Leopards' defense early and often en route to five rushing touchdowns and 317 yards on the ground between them.

Adding to Gainesville's troubles was the injury to quarterback Cade Searcy. The senior signal caller injured his left foot early in the second quarterback and had to be replaced after going 0-6 in the air and carrying three times for 65 yards.

London Daniels stepped up, throwing 4-11 for 33 yards against a stout Aubrey defense and running four times for 32 yards. Xavion Carson chipped in with 12 rushes for 62 for Gainesville.

Gainesville will be on the road at Farmersville Friday.
