Liverpool, the current leader of the English Premier League, is set to host Manchester City, the second-ranked team in current standings, on Sunday at Anfield in what promises to be an epic match-up.

The top two teams in the league are separated by only one point, and Liverpool's manager, Jurgen Klopp, wants his side to extend their lead by four points over Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Despite key players struggling with injuries this season, Liverpool has been playing exceptionally well lately. In their campaign for the title, Liverpool has a record of 19 wins, six losses, and two draws this Premier League season, and they currently lead with 63 points.

Liverpool could be in a better position as they host City and have only lost one of the last 20 home matches against Manchester City in the Premier League. That defeat came in a 4-1 loss in 2021.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City predictions

The Standard: Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City

Jonathan Gorrie writes: "If there’s one team to beat Liverpool at Anfield this season, it is surely City. Still, they do not boast a good record there and the return of Salah is a huge boost for the hosts."

Covers: Manchester City moneyline

Chris Vasile writes: "Manchester City is on an absolute tear right now. They've won five straight fixtures in all competitions and are unbeaten over their last 20 matches with just two draws. They continue to score goals for fun and the return of Kevin De Bruyne has given City an added killer-instinct element that they were searching for in the early portion of the season. Pep Guardiola has done a fantastic job (as usual) of pushing the right buttons and his side has responded.  As for Liverpool, they've been nothing short of stellar this season, despite being without Mo Salah for the majority of it. Darwin Nunez is rounding into a fine striker, and the team is never out of a game because of it. Just look at some of the late equalizers/winners he's been a part of this season to rescue them. My concern with Liverpool lies in their extensive list of injury woes, which inadvertently provides Man City with bulletin board material."

Independent: City remains favorites

Simon Sinclair writes: "Liverpool have won their last four league games on the bounce entering the contest, although they couldn’t have left it later against Forest last time out in the Premier League. The Reds appeared to be settling for a draw before Nunez scored in the 99th minute – how crucial could those two points be at the end of the season?  Despite Liverpool's relentless form, betting sites are not overlooking City in the Premier League title odds as they remain favourites to clinch a fourth successive crown."

Livescore: Back Manchester City to win

Staff writes: "Liverpool's home form has been incredible so far, and City's recent form suggests the two could just cancel each other out. However, Liverpool's treatment room is overflowing with first-team players, and with Salah yet to reach peak fitness, it looks like City may just edge proceedings. Guardiola's side may not be perfect at the back, but they have continued to grind out results against stubborn defences and the same should happen on Sunday."
