EDward Gaming will not be attending the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship due difficulty obtaining proper visas, according to the team’s weibo.
“Notice: Due to visa issues, EDward Gaming’s League of Legends team will withdraw from the IEM event,” the announcement read. “EDG were scheduled to travel to Poland for the IEM Finals from February 22 to February 26, but because of player visa conditions, visas cannot be obtained before the day of the event. We regretfully withdraw. EDG wish to say sorry to the event sponsors and fans, and we hope that the event is still a successful one.”
This is not the first time EDward Gaming have withdrawn from a non-Riot event, as they have declined to participate in the majority of offseason tournaments except Demacia Cup since the 2015 World Championship. This is, however, the first time they have stated that visa issues are the reason.
It is not yet announced whether a team will replace EDward Gaming at such short notice.
