Former Tennessee Titans punter Brett Kern among Eagles' inactives for Super Bowl

Former Tennessee Titans punter Brett Kern was listed as one of the inactives Sunday by the Philadelphia Eagles for the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Saturday, the Eagles announced they activated starting punter Arryn Siposs from injured reserve. Siposs suffered an ankle injury in Week 14 and the Eagles signed Kern.

Kern, who played for the Titans from 2009-21, has punted in five games with the Eagles counting the postseason but is averaging career lows in yards per punt and net yards per punt.

The Titans released Kern prior to the 2022 season, turning instead to rookie Ryan Stonehouse. In his first year as a pro, Stonehouse set a new NFL record for highest average gross yards per punt, averaging 53.1 yards per punt. That mark broke the record previously set by Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh in 1940.

In his 13 seasons with the Titans, Kern was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and was named to two All Pro teams, including earning first-team honors in 2019. He holds the Titans franchise records for most punts, punting yards, net punting yards and most punts downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line. Among players who have punted more than 10 times for the franchise, only Stonehouse has averaged more yards per punt and more net yards per punt, and no one has downed a higher percentage of their punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
