Dynasty continued: Fyffe football runs all over Reeltown to claim Class 2A state title

Fyffe's Logan Anderson ran for more than 2,800 yards to lead the Red Devils to the state title in 2023.

TUSCALOOSA − For the seventh time since 2014 and second season in a row, Fyffe football will be bringing home a state title after a 43-24 win over Reeltown in the Class 2A state title game.

Fyffe barely wasted any time with Logan Anderson breaking off a 77-yard run on the game's opening play before scoring two plays later. Anderson had 159 yards and three touchdowns in the opening half as the Red Devils finished the half with a 16-point lead. The Rebels scored on their opening two drives but struggled the rest of the first half.

Both teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, and Reeltown got the game to 12 points late in the fourth before another Anderson touchdown.

Anderson finished the night with 256 yards and four touchdowns, the most in a Class 2A state title game. Ryder Gipson ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Historic win for Benefield

Fyffe's coach Paul Benefield became the seventh coach to win seven or more state titles in Alabama history. He won his 351st game in his career, tying him with Danny Horn for second all time. Earlier this season, Benefield became the second coach to win 300 games at one school, joining Buddy Anderson at Vestavia Hills.

Logan Anderson's historic day

There have been plenty of great seasons by running backs at Fyffe, and on Friday Anderson broke two single-season school records. He surpassed the single-season rushing record with a rush in the second quarter, breaking Dilan Kilpatrick's 2015 mark. His fourth-quarter touchdown passed Austin Stiefel’s 2014 mark.

If Anderson can have a similar season next year it will put him in position to break career records for rushing yards and touchdowns at Fyffe. Both are held by his brother, Payton.
