Dyches, Souderton ride team unity to win over CB East, stay unbeaten

SOUDERTON — Maybe it's a magic formula that Souderton has been using in the early going that has them at 3-0 after an entertaining 23-21 win over previously unbeaten Central Bucks East on Friday night.

Nah, that's not it.

"It's just that we believe in each other and what we can do," Big Red senior standout Danny Dyches said. "Everybody is there to help each other and we trust each other.

"We have big goals for this season. We want to go undefeated (in the regular season) and go as far as we can (in the playoffs)."

Wins like the one Friday night don't hurt when you consider the Patriots crunched the Big Red 30-13 last season.

"Losing to them last year was definitely in the back of our minds," said Dyches, a dynamic wide receiver and defensive back who caught five passes for 67 yards, including two huge receptions on Souderton's winning drive late in the fourth quarter.

"Whatever needs to be done, we can do it. We never quit. They came back and took the lead, but we just kept giving everything we had and we were not going to lose."

Dyches, a 6-foot-5 burner, knows the Big Red earn their keep by running the ball and he appreciates when they throw it to him.

"We love to run it and I'll run it or catch it or do whatever we need," said Dyches, who had 47 yards rushing on eight carries.

"The coaches find a way to get me the ball and I just try and do whatever I can to help my team."

Fellow seniors Ryan Sadowski and Rylan Zuk also did plenty to help the Big Red as Sadowski scored both touchdowns on short runs and Zuk blasted field goals of 40, 42 and 21 yards (with just over three minutes to play to put Souderton up for good).

"So many guys gave great efforts against a really good football team in East that's going to win a lot of football games," Souderton head coach Ed Gallagher said.

"They embarrassed us last year at their place and these guys really wanted this one. Danny and Ryan played their butts off in what was a total team effort."

Notes: Patriot junior offensive guard Mike Carroll, a 6-foot-6, 298-pound four-star recruit considered by many to be the top offensive line prospect in the state in the Class of 2025 and who has received numerous big-time offers from the likes of Michigan, Wisconsin, West Virginia, wore a Penn State sleeve on one arm. Yes, the Nittany Lions have also offered him. ... Zuk put four of his kickoffs into the end zone.
