Diman/Durfee/Westport co-op hockey team captures Prenda Cup: Top performers (Dec. 11-18)

FALL RIVER — It was history in the making at Driscoll Ice Arena on Saturday night.

The Diman/Durfee/Westport co-op ice hockey captured its first Prenda Cup since 2012 after an exciting, 4-3 overtime win over Somerset Berkley in the finals.

The contest was came down to a shootout, which the Bengals won, 3-2.

"Overall team effort was amazing," Diman head coach Marc O'Connor said. "The team left everything on the ice and sacrificed the body blocking at least 12 shots."

Landen Freitas netted the game winner in the shootout. Jacob Almeida and Evan Camara scored the other goals. Almeida, Kane Aguiar and Bryce Medeiros each scored goals during regulation. Ryan Sandford (two), Almeida and Bryce Medeiros each chipped in with assists. Freshman goalie Trent Souza stopped 46 shots on net.

Kien Stafford, Liam Derocher and Aaron Preston scored goals in regulation for the Raiders (1-0-1). Stafford and Luke Gauvin each scored during the shootout.

Nik Peters who made a huge save in the third period, stopping a Somerset rebound that got behind Souza.

Diman (2-0-1) will face Greater New Bedford on Monday.

Boys Track

Ben Douquette had two, second-place finishes in the mile and two-mile for the Cardinals (0-1) in Dighton-Rehoboth's 60-25. Ben Deady took second in the 55 hurdles (8.8) while Jackson Deady took second in the 600 (1:35.9). Nick Thorpe placed second in the 300 (39.7) and anchored the 4x400 relay team of Trevor Godfrey, Jackson Deady, Ben Deady and Nick Thorpe.

Camden Rose was a double winner for the Raiders in a 84-2 win over Greater New Bedford. Other winners include Matthew Barboza (mile), Derrick Camara (55 hurdles), David Perry (55 dash), Matthew Barboza (1000), Logan Cabral (2-mile), Landon Richardson (high jump) and Joseph Ramos (shot put) for SBR (1-0).

Girls Track

Hannah Santos won two events for the Cardinals in Dighton-Rehoboth's 47-39 win. She won the high jump (5'2") and 55 hurdles (9.8) — both state qualifiers. Emma Bouchard also had state qualifying times in the 55 dash (7.4) and 300 (45.3). Ashlyn Byrnes won the mile and two-mile for Case (0-1).

Emily Carr was a double winner for the Raiders (1-0) in a 75-0 win over Greater New Bedford. Individual winners for SBR were Mackenzie Heroux (mile), Evelyn Adey (600), Andriana Logakis (1000), Emily Fernandes (2-mile), Sophia Thornton (high jump) and Deanna DeStefano (shot put).

Friday

Boys basketball

Mickey Pimental had a team-high 15 points for the Tritons but it wasn't enough in Calvery Chapel's 54-46 win . Nate Benivedes scored in double figures with 10 points. DJ Adediran (eight), Marv Antoine (seven) and Izzy Aponte (six) also scored for Atlantis Charter (1-2).

Landon Cayton netted a season-high 30 points for the Cardinals in Dighton-Rehoboth's 76-72 win. Aiden Parent chipped in with 15 points and Jack Orton finished with 11 points for Case (2-1).

Owen Boudria finished with a team-high 16 points for the Wildcats in Blue Hills' 64-39 win. Max Gallant added nine points for Westport (1-2)

Girls basketball

The Hilltoppers improve to 3-0 on the season after beating Somerset Berkley on the road, 45-33. For the Raiders, Mia Gentile had a team-high 14 points and Hannah Carpenter finished with 11 points.

Sarah Perry scored 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and five blocks to lead the unbeaten Wildcats to a 54-26 win over Blue HIlls. Korynne Holden chipped in with 13 points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals. Julia George finished with 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and four steals for Westport (3-0).

Liberty Gazaille had her third straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Cardinals' 45-40 win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Kambree Nell collected eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Lily Picard finished with eight points and 14 rebounds while Emma Plante ended with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Cindy Bui (13) and Evey Fernandes (12) finished in double figures for the Bengals in Wareham's 61-3 win. Lizzy Kinnane and Alana Rivera each contributed five points for Diman (0-2).

Boys Swimming

The Hilltoppers remained unbeaten after beating Seekonk, 97-77. The relay team of Michael Harrington, Forrest Malo, Omar Mahmoud and Jack Fitzgerald won their race in the 200 medley relay (2:09.82). Mahmoud, Fitzgerald and Harrington later teamed with William Rumsey to take the 200 free relay with a time of 1:48.52. Individual winners include Harrington in the 200 and 500 Free, Fitzgerald in the 50 Free and 100 backstroke, Mahmoud in the 100 breaststroke and Logan Vandenburgh won in diving for Durfee (2-0).

Girls Swimming

Rachael Silva punched her ticket to both state and sectional championships tonight, winning the dive event for the Hilltoppers (0-2) with a score of 231.4. Avery Antunes was a solo winner for Durfee in Seekonk's 113-69 win. She had a first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 28.88.

Wednesday

Ice hockey

Mason Sullivan scored a pair of goals for the Raiders in a 4-0 win over Apponequet. Kein Stafford had a goal and an assist while Luke Gauvin also netted a goal. Nate Mello had a pair of assists and Cam McKenna had a point. Senior goalie Brendon Silva stopped 23 shots on net.

Kane Aguiar (assist), Landen Freitas (assist), Owen Vernon (assist), Bryce Medeiros (assist), Jack Bouchard and Jaren Martins each scored goals to lift the Diman co-op team to a 6-0 win over Mt. Hope. Nik Peters (2), Ryan Sandford, Aidan Farias and Kane Aguiar. Trent Souza and Cohen Pacheco combined for the shutout in net.

Boys Basketball

Aiden Parent had a game-high 23 points, including seven 3-pointers to help lead the Cardinals to a 65-47 win over Diman. Landon Cayton had 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Cayden Gonsalves finished with 15 points and collected nine assists for Case (2-0). Sam Perry (15), Anthony DeJesus (14) and Sakai Silver (11) each had a solid game for the Bengals (0-1).

Owen Boudria scored a team-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats to a 60-44 home win over Seekonk. Cole Boudria had 10 of his 13 points in the first half for Westport (1-1). Max Gallant added eight points.

Gerald and Genald George along with Devon Paradise, Chris Sanchez and Jowell Noze also played well in the win.

Girls Basketball

Liberty Gazaille and Emma Plante each had 23 points to lift the Cardinals to a 62-28 win over Diman to give new head coach Ellie Roberts her first varsity win on the bench. Gazaille (11) and Plante (13) combined for 24 rebounds. Kambree Knell played stellar and stepped up in the point guard position tonight for Case (1-1).

Freshman Skylar Rezendes scored a career-high 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two steals to lead the Wildcats to a 43-20 road win over Seekonk. Korynne Holden had 10 points, nine steals and seven assists. Julia George finished with seven points and Sarah Perry had four points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Westport (2-0).

Wrestling

The Raiders co-op team grabbed their first win of the season, beating Whitman Hanson, 54-24 in their season home opener. Wins for Somerset Berkley/Case were Rob Nunnelly, Alex Javier, Anthony Celio, Ayden Griffen, Jimmy Phenix, Ayden Lambert, Ryan Fredette, Aidan Sylvia, Owen Pavao, Jayden Medeiros and Charlie Mesas.

Tuesday

Boys swimming

Omar Mahmoud had a winning time of 2:44.22 in the 200IM to lead the Hilltoppers to a 90-78 win over Apponequet. Logan Vandenburgh (1-meter dive), Michael Harrington (500 free) and Jack Fitzgerald (50 free) also won their events. Mahmoud, Harrington, Fitzgerald and Reed White took first in the 200 free relay for Durfee (1-0).

Girls Swimming

Durfee’s Rachael Silva won the 1-meter dive with a score of 226.60 in the Laker’s 94-71 win over the Hilltoppers. Abigail Saunders (50 and 100 free) and Avery Antunes (100 butterfly and 200 IM) each had strong performances in their events. Madison Ferreira and Casey Carvalho also fared well at diving for Durfee (0-1).

Boys Track

Curtis Mowatt won the long jump with a school record of 21-1.75 and placed second in the 55 dash for the Hilltoppers in Dartmouth’s 76-24 win. Kayden Kheav took second in the high jump while Jose Chicas recorded a third-place finish in the 1000. Hyde Farias had a second-place showing in the 55 dash and third in the high jump.

Girls Track

Thysh Garcia Martinez finished second in the 55m dash with a new personal-record. Jasmine DoSouto won the shot put event and Aaliyah Alexandre finished second in the 55 hurdles. Madison Monty grabbed her first varsity point, finishing third in the 600.

Monday

Boys basketball

Jeyden Espinal netted a team-high 20 points to lead the Hilltoppers to a 85-45 road win over O'Bryant. Davontae Stewart had 15 points and Avonte Lamore ended in double figures with 10 points. Jahmeir Stephenson and Jayden Souza each finished with nine points. Durfee (2-0) hosts Somerset Berkley Friday.

The Cardinals came from behind to beat Westport on the road. Landon Cayton led Case with a team-high 15 points. Cayden Gonsalves netted 14 points. Tyler Costa added eight second half points.

Girls Basketball

Mya Hayes-Paulette poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the unbeaten Hilltoppers to a 68-34 home win over non-league opponent Seekonk. Maggie O'Connell chipped in with 17 points and Maddie Hargraves finished with 15 points. The Hilltoppers (2-0) travel to Somerset Berkley on Friday night.

Wrestling

The Hilltoppers dropped a dual meet on the road against Canton, 60-18. Winners for Durfee were Alicia Warren (106), Carlos Gomez (133), Ladaynian Mendes (144) and Kayden Chaney (165).
