Ducks Wire Player of the Game: Bo Nix ties Oregon record for touchdowns in a game
There was a lot of history on the line for the Oregon Ducks down in Tempe, Arizona, today. Troy Franklin broke Oregon’s single-season receiving record and Camden Lewis became the Ducks’ all-time leading scorer. But Oregon fans may not have suspected Bo Nix to join Justin Herbert in holding the record for most passing touchdowns in a game.
It didn’t take Nix long to get things going. On the Ducks’ first drive, Bo and Co. marched down the field and capped off the series with a TD to Patrick Herbert. Nix would go on to throw 5 more TDs in the half, and the Ducks walked into the locker up 42-0 on the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Perhaps Bo’s most impressive play of the day was his 45-yard TD pass to Troy Franklin. Nix’s deep ball was thrown perfectly, and Franklin made a spectacular catch in the middle of the end zone, putting himself just one yard away from the single-season receiving record.
When Nix finally cast his helmet aside early in the 3rd quarter, his stats came to rest at 24/29 passing (83%), 404 yards, 6 TDs, and a passer rating of 268.1.
After his stellar performance last week against USC, Nix placed his atop the Heisman list at most sportsbooks. 3 weeks ago, the Heisman race was anybody’s game to win, but as we’re coming down the stretch, it has become a two-horse race between Bo Nix and LSU QB, Jayden Daniels.
Next week, Nix and the Oregon Ducks will face off against their in-state rivals, the Oregon State Beavers, for the final time as members of the same conference. Oregon State is one of two Pac-12 teams Nix has yet to beat after the Ducks fell to the Beavers in 2022. If Nix plays half as well against Oregon State as he did against the Sun Devils, the Ducks should be in good shape to win.
