Drew Brees among guests at Broncos’ practice Tuesday

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was a guest at Denver Broncos practice on Tuesday.

“He was in for a day,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of Brees after practice. “His brother lives in Centennial. He phoned us yesterday and said he was coming in to see his brother and wanted to know our schedule. So, he came in. It was great to see him. He knows a lot of people here—coaches and players.”

Brees played for Payton with the Saints from 2006-2020, winning Super Bowl XLIV following the 2009 season. Brees was just one of many guests at the team’s practice Tuesday.

Denver also invited more than 30 alumni to Tuesday’s session. Former players in attendance included Steve Atwater, Rod Smith, Jake Plummer, Steve Foley and Alfred Williams.

“We had a lot of people,” Payton said. “We had our alumni in today, and that was really good. They were able to watch practice and spend some time with our players afterwards. The lifeblood of your program are the people — the present players, the former players, and those that came before us and really built this foundation and built the tradition that we’ve been able to really enjoy.”

Jared Allen was also back at practice Tuesday. The former pass rusher will serve as a guest coach for parts of the 2023 campaign this year. The Broncos practiced indoors Tuesday ahead of their upcoming joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday and Thursday.
