Dolphins unlikely to play internationally in 2024 as Eagles land first game in Brazil

The NFL announced Monday that the Philadelphia Eagles will be the designated team in the first-ever game in Brazil this season, virtually ruling out the possibility that the Dolphins will play internationally in 2024.

The Dolphins do not play the Eagles this season. In addition, of the four teams designated to play in Europe in 2024, Miami plays only one, Jacksonville, but for that game, the Dolphins will be the home team, meaning it will be scheduled for Hard Rock Stadium.

The Dolphins were thought to be frontrunners to play in Brazil because they were assigned that country under the NFL's Global Markets Program.

The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are designated to play in London and the Carolina Panthers in Munich, but Miami won’t play those teams in 2024.

The Eagles’ opponent for the game in Sao Paulo has not been announced. The game will be played on Sept. 6, marking the first NFL game on a Friday night of opening weekend since 1970.

The Eagles are scheduled to play home games vs. Atlanta, Carolina, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Jacksonville and NFC North rivals Dallas, the New York Giants and Washington.

“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint," Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions."
