When do the Miami Dolphins pick in the first round of NFL Draft?

The Dolphins did not have a first-round draft pick in 2022 or 2023.

"I know he wants one, bad," Dolphins general manager Chris Grier joked this week, with coach Mike McDaniel beside him.

McDaniel said he can't promise the Dolphins won't trade their 2024 pick, as they've done in recent moves for Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb.

But the window to win is now.

"If there’s an opportunity that we feel can help our roster and it makes sense and most of the guys we’ve traded for have been in an age bracket, too, that makes sense for us to do that if you’re going to move a pick like that," Grier said. "So we’re always open to listening if people want to contact us."

For the sake of this story, we'll suggest the Dolphins keep their first-round pick and consider selecting an offensive lineman, cornerback or defensive lineman.

Now that the first-round of NFL playoff games are over, we know where Miami will select on April 25 in Detroit.

As we know, the Lions' first-round playoff win means no NFL team has a longer playoff victory drought.

"We’re just going to keep grinding, chopping wood," Grier said. "We have a good roster. We know that we’ll keep adding and the team will look different. As we all know every year, 30 or 40 percent or more of rosters change. But we’ll find ways to have good players here and be competitive.

"We are very excited about our core nucleus players here. We will be competitive. The goal is to win the AFC East and win a playoff game, and ultimately a Super Bowl. That’s the goal of all 32 teams and it’s no different for us.”

When do the Miami Dolphins draft in Round 1?

It's 21st.

That's not bad, considering Miami began this season with an 11-4 record and looked headed toward picks 28-32.

The Dolphins would have preferred a long playoff run, but it is what it is.

That's a pretty darn good recent track record for Grier. Only Igbinoghene and Fitzpatrick are no longer with Miami.

When did the Dolphins last pick 21?

The last time the Dolphins picked 21st, in 1980, they selected defensive back Don McNeal of Alabama. He played nine years with Miami, recording 110 games and 18 interceptions.

The last time Miami's picked in the 20s, it selected defensive end/linebacker Charles Harris, who had only 3.5 sacks in three years with Miami but is still in the league.

Miami picked in this range in 2009 and 2010, selecting cornerback Vontae Davis (25th) and defensive end Jared Odrick (28th), who had successful NFL careers.
