Dolphins' Conga Line during win over Broncos rises to the top of NFL end zone celebrations

There was a time when the NFL stood for "No Fun League." Excessive touchdown celebrations were verboten and players were encouraged to "act like you've been there" when reaching the end zone.

Those days, thank goodness, are over. Today's National Football League players are pushing the limits when it comes to what they are doing after scoring a touchdown. The Dolphins certainly had plenty of celebrations during Sunday's record-setting 70-20 win against the Denver Broncos - and several were worthy of 10s from Olympic judges.

  • Tyreek Hill took the Lambeau Leap a step farther, climbing over the end zone wall at Hard Rock Stadium after his first-quarter TD reception and celebrating with the fans.

  • Several players on offense, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, running back Raheem Mostert, offensive linemen Terron Armstead and Robert Hunt and Hill, did a conga line after another score in the second quarter.

  • Mostert went "swimming" in the end zone following one of his four touchdowns on the day.

Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who usually runs from the sideline to the end zone when the offense scores, loved watching Hill going over the wall - even if the Pro Bowl receiver appeared to struggle at first.

“I ain’t going to lie, I thought ‘Cheetah’ (Tyreek Hill) going into the crowd was pretty cool," Wilkins said. "That was fun and it was just funny to – you see him try to get over the thing. It was hilarious. But I really liked the conga line, everybody doing the one-two step. That was fun. That was cool.”

Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who "rolled the dice" after his Pick Six against the Broncos, said he was happy to see the offense celebrating those touchdowns.

"They are celebrating doing their little dance," Ogbah said. "We saw them practice that dance too on Friday which is funny, and they ended up doing it. That was pretty cool to see.”

What does conga line mean and why did Miami Dolphins celebrate with the dance after touchdown against Broncos?

Offensive tackle Austin Jackson explained that the players came up with the conga line during warmups at last Friday's practice. But Wilkins said many of his are last-second celebrations.

“I’m pretty creative, too, so I’ll come up with maybe a little something here or there," he said, "but yeah, usually typically just emotion, spur of the moment, just have fun with it. Just let the moments happen and just let it out.”

Ogbah said it's demoralizing for a defense to see the offense celebrating like crazy after scoring. It could not have felt any better even when rookie running back De'Von Achane simply accepted his teammates' congrats after scoring his four TDs on the day.

“You don’t want to see that," Ogbah said of the excessive celebrations. "They just scored on you, and they are dancing. You could see the defenders, you can see the look on their faces like, ‘come on y'all.’ But, yeah it’s demoralizing as a defender.”
