DirecTV to reimburse viewers affected by NFL Sunday Ticket digital streaming outage

After its NFL Sunday Ticket digital streaming service faltered for a second time in as many weeks, DirecTV will try to make it right with the customers affected by the lapse in service.

"We will begin to reach out to our customers who were unable to stream some of the games on Sunday to let them know we will automatically reimburse them for (Week 2)," a spokesperson for DirecTV wrote Monday in an email to USA TODAY Sports. "We apologize to our customers for their experience and for the inconvenience."

Viewers trying to watch the seven games of Sunday's early slate of NFL action reported issues with digital viewing as well as on the company's app when coverage suddenly dropped. Many sent messages to the company's verified Twitter accounts. In response, DirecTV directed users to contact the @DIRECTVhelp account via direct message.

In one message, the DirecTV Help account said its "team of technicians is already aware of this issue and working to solve it as soon as possible."

The company's traditional satellite service was not affected by the outage.

After the digital outage was eventually fixed Sunday, a spokesperson said DirecTV would continue to monitor the digital streaming systems and apologized for the lapse in service. Once the issue had been resolved, there were no other apparent streaming difficulties for the afternoon slate of games.

Before the outage was repaired, however, NFL fans were vocal about their displeasure with the service.

Digital streaming and the Sunday Ticket app suffered a similar outage Sept. 11, which was the first Sunday of the 2022 NFL season.

Since 1994, DirecTV has been the exclusive provider for Sunday Ticket, which allows viewers the chance to see all out-of-market NFL games. According to DirecTV's website, the cost for Sunday Ticket starts at $293.94, while Sunday Ticket Max, which includes NFL Red Zone, costs $395.94.
