Lions mailbag: Talking NFL draft and the merits of taking a QB early in 2023

Game notes: The Lions enter off a needed bye week after a 29-0 embarrassment in New England. Awaiting them are the Cowboys and the return of quarterback Dak Prescott (broken right thumb). Cooper Rush, the former Lansing Catholic and Central Michigan standout, was steady at quarterback in leading Dallas to a 4-1 record in Prescott's absence, losing last week in Philadelphia, 26-17. ... The Lions, losers of three straight, are significant underdogs, with the key matchup being the protection against apex second-year edge rusher Micah Parsons. Last season's unanimous defensive rookie of the year already has three double-digit sack games this season, though he had a "frustrating" night vs. the Eagles, held to zero QB hits as Dallas allowed more than 19 points and more than one touchdown for the first time this season. ... The Lions and Cowboys last played in 2019, a 35-27 Dallas win in Detroit (remember Jeff Driskel?) when Prescott passed for 444 yards and three scores. Prescott is 3-0 vs. the Lions − 2-0 in Arlington − torching them for eight touchdown passes and no picks.
