Detroit Lions' Bruce Irvin fined for hit on Derek Carr, won't play vs. Chicago Bears

Bruce Irvin will have to pay for his big hit on Derek Carr.

Irvin was fined $7,766 for roughing Carr in the fourth quarter of last week's 33-28 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Irvin, playing his first game with the Detroit Lions, hit Carr in the chest and drove him into ground, knocking him from the game with a concussion. Carr's replacement, Jameis Winston, threw three straight errant passes on New Orleans' final drive to clinch the Lions victory.

Irvin said after the game he expected to be fined.

"I guess it was (for landing on Carr with my) body weight," Irvin said of the penalty. "I’m going to get a nice FedEx in the mail."

Irvin played 11 defensive snaps and had one sack against the Saints. The Lions did not elevate him from the practice squad for this week's game against the Chicago Bears.

Safety Kerby Joseph also was fined $6,230 for unsportsmanlike conduct after Alvin Kamara's 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Joseph was not flagged for a penalty on the play.

The Lions elevated one practice squad player to the game day roster on Saturday, offensive lineman Michael Niese.
