Determining Texas’ ceiling and floor for 2022

The Texas Longhorns typically receive a wide spectrum of predictions before each football season. Some more critical of the team expect Texas to struggle for bowl eligibility, while others think the Longhorns should be favored to win the Big 12 championship. The truth is likely between those extremes.

It’s no secret that Texas has elite weapons on the outside. While they have more this season, they had a freshman All-American output from Xavier Worthy and multiple explosive plays from Bijan Robinson out of the backfield last year.

Texas also has an accurate deep passer this year in Quinn Ewers, but they did last year at times with Casey Thompson too.

The Longhorns’ strong transfer portal haul gives them a 10 or 11-win ceiling this season. But with numerous unknowns, a seven-win season looms as a strong possibility.

Where Texas lands within their expected win range is dependent on how well Steve Sarkisian can communicate his system and culture to his players.
