DeSanto Rollins to appeal dismissal of lawsuit against Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss

DeSanto Rollins will appeal a court's decision to dismiss his lawsuit against Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin, according to a filing from his legal representation on Wednesday.

The appeal, set to be heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, will look to overturn an order issued by Judge Michael P. Mills on Wednesday dismissing the lawsuit.

Rollins' case sought $30 million in punitive damages from Kiffin, also seeking a temporary restraining order and an injunction reinstating him to his position on the defensive line of the Ole Miss football team. It also sought $10 million in compensatory damages from Kiffin and Ole Miss.

The lawsuit was built around allegations that Kiffin had intentionally inflicted emotional distress that impacted Rollins' mental health crisis. It also alleged that Kiffin and/or Ole Miss practiced discrimination based on race, disability and sex toward Rollins, a Black male. It accused Kiffin and Ole Miss of negligence and gross negligence.

Rollins' original complaint, which Kiffin moved to dismiss in early November, alleged that the coach kicked him off the football team in early March. Ole Miss has publicly insisted that Rollins remains part of the football program. He is still listed on the online roster as of Thursday.
